Est 1943 - 2023

Welcome to Browns Bay Bowling club

As one of the premiere clubs in North Harbour our players have earned many National and Center titles through the years, and continue to compete in all the major events.

We are a very active club, catering for many of the North Harbour events, Club Champs, Roll-up Bowls and even Indoor bowls. We currently have three grass greens and one carpet green, so play can continue all year round.

A fully licensed bar that caters for all those thirsty souls after a long days play.

We also have a lounge area with a snooker table and 2 pool tables and dart boards.

A fully equipped kitchen means we can cater for functions of up to 250 people in the main building and up to 60 people in our smaller Pavilion venue.

We have a big business league competition in summer that is sponsored by Harcourts Cooper & Co

and we cater for many corporate functions through the year.

So, whatever your level of play, we can help. With our local coaches we can help you get into the wonderful and competitive world of bowls.

All enquiries are welcome.

Freedom Companion Driving

&

Teresa Burns Hearing Tournament

Tuesday 12 March saw the running of this triples tournament thanks to the sponsorship of Freedom Companion Driving & Teresa Burns Hearing.

The two bowl, 12 end, 4 game tournament was run on the two front greens with teams from all over the North Shore competing for prizes put up by the sponsors.  Juniors mixed with seniors and some teams were stacked, all making for a colourful event.  There was plenty of banty, a little skulduggery and sledging thrown in and only 2 four winners on the day.  Top prize going to a Manly team of mixed players including a junior of some 12 months experience.  Very well done indeed.

Needless to say the fat was chewed in the club rooms after the event with a number of “if only”’s, miracle shots that shouldn’t have been, so and so couldn’t get it up (the bowl) at a critical end and it was Lloyds fault, even though Lloyd wasn’t there ( I normally blame the wife whether she is there or not).

Strangely after a couple of refreshments most talk doesn’t move away from bowls, only the stories get bigger, the lies longer and the laughs louder.  A big thanks to all those that participated and the volunteers for setting up the greens and tidying up after.  A thankless job.  A couple more photos are in the gallery.

Lastly a special thanks to our two sponsors Freedom Companion Driving and Teresa Burns Hearing for putting up the prizes.  Thank You.

                                                               2024 Harcourts

                                                 Business House Bowls

CONGRATULATIONS to the Browns Bay Fishing Club for winning the Harcourts Business House bowls tournament for the 2024 year.  A great win for a team that have always been there or there abouts in previous years but no longer brides-men but winners.

A great finals night with the Fishing Club up against the Bowled and the Beautiful in their first game.  The women had the fishing club on the back foot early on, but after the Zambuca shots wore off so did the accuracy unfortunately, with the boys getting through.  In the other top of the table clash the 2nd placed Bay City Bowlers fought out a tough draw with The Juicers. That meant the Crackerjacks had to beat the Fishing Club for Bay City Bowlers to have any chance of the Cup.

In a miserable year for the Crackerjacks they were pounded into submission by the Fishing Club and the Cup was theirs.  Bay City Bowlers gave Redlite Rebels a beating (remember it was Tim of Redlite who predicted a Redlite clean sweep only a couple of weeks back) for the runner up berth and Redlines (no, not Redlite) a great 3rd spot.

In the Plate section the joint leaders Hapukas also had a top night with 2 big wins (15 ends and 29 points) to smash the opposition and claim top prize in the Plate.  The Slammers with 2 excellent wins (16 ends and 29 points) pushed Hapukas for the top spot but just coming up short one point behind Hapukas.Jack Attack and Unbelievable who were in the hunt going into the final night didn’t attack and lived up to being underdone.  Outside chance the Ditch Bitches also failed to stay out of the ditches and blew their chances.  See the separate menu above for further comment on the tournament.

An excellent tournament with great weather over the 8 weeks and plenty of sportsmanship (yes ladies – sportsmanship), banter and a hell of a lot of sledging, but all in great spirits.  We thank all the participants for giving it a go and all the volunteers for making it run well.

Finally, our greatest thanks again go to Harcourts and Wendy Treadwell as the principal sponsor for the tournament and also a big thank you to New World Browns Bay for the sausage sizzle for the 8 weeks.

Brent Turner Memorial

With 30 teams in the starting lineup, the weekend began well but after a slightly rainy afternoon on the first day, the top 16 teams and the bottom 14 teams played off for the $5000 cash prize pool come Sunday.

The eventual winners in the top section were Browns Bays Brian Wilson and Lindsay Gilmore who played with Riverhead’s Steve Cox; runners up from Manly were Keith Benson, Andy Dorrance and Kevin Rainsford, with Browns Bays Neil Fisher, John Walker and Colin Rogan taking third spot.

Players came from as far away as Whangārei in the north to Kerepehi in the Waikato, with a sizeable contingent of Auckland players crossing the harbour bridge for the two days. With our greens playing very well, the players all seemed to enjoy the atmosphere especially those who went home with meat pack or cash raffle prizes.

A big thanks to our caterers, the volunteers who assisted cleaning up, the bar people and those who helped set up and clean up the greens both days. The event which will now be played yearly, was very generously sponsored by Ray White Orewa and Mairangi Bay.

A special thanks also to the Turner family who proposed the tournament and  converted into a very successful weekend for the club.

Fairview & Settlers 2023 Ham Tournament

The Browns Bay Bowling Club annual ham tournament was held on the 12th of December with the amazing support of sponsors Fairview & Settlers lifestyle villages.  32 teams battled out for 64 hams that were on offer that day with prizes for the top 6 teams, 5 random teams, skips, 3rd's, 2nd's, leads and of course raffles.  Here is the winning team, a bunch of burglars from Browns Bay, with our great sponsors Robyn Rangi & Linda Neale of Fairview & Setllers.  More photos are in the gallery 2023/Ham Tournament.
