2022 trip was held 16, 17, 18 September

We had hoped for an icy July or Augst trip but rain and norwest winds pushed this into spring and it was a fantastic weekend.

For those making a weekend of it, accommodation was at Clent Hill Station, $30/night in the bunkhouse or $50/night in the pod or cabin.

12 paddled on the lake, including day trippers.

Other activiies included climbing nearby Mt surgarloaf & mountain biking to Mystery Lake (behind Lake Clearwater).

2018 Lake Heron Trip was on Sunday 5 August
The weather forecast from the Hakate weather station proved spot-on. Winter too mild for any ice however.

10 people went and enjoyed calm conditions.

Planning delails were the same as in 2016:

Meet at Tennyson St Rolleston 8.00am (just around the corner from the BP on Main Sth Rd) to share transport. Re-group at Mt Somers Store, Pattons Rd at 10.00am from where we will drive to the lake. It takes a while to get there and is a gravel road from the Hakatere turn off. Meet to launch at the car park and the southern end of the lake.

Dress for cold weather and cold water. Take gloves/pogies. One of the reasons for going in winter is the hope that there will be ice on the lake.

Trip coordinator was Ian McKenzie however Geoff Giller took over at the last minute when Ian couldn't go.

2016 trip was Sunday 14 August.
18 Kayaks, 19 people
We launched from the car park and the southern end, with a smattering of snow underfoot. Most kayaked to the northern side of the lake, some nearly to the head of the lake. Were were heading into a strong wind, so it was a bit of a challenge to keep together. Nice photo opportunity!

Did anyone go in 2014, or in 2013?

The 2012 trip was on Sunday 29 July
We met outside Mt Somers General store at 9:30 a.m. and the day seemed promising. At the lake however it was blowing a gale and only the hardy ventured onto the water.
