A stunning display of bowls saw Ashley Diamond take out the Singles final from Teri Anderson.
Twenty-seven year-old Diamond from the Hornby club, beat 20-year-old Teri Anderson from St Andrews in Waikato 14-2 in a one-sided final in which Anderson conceded early defeat.
It’s Diamond’s third national title, having previously won the pairs and fours. He’s been playing bowls about 16 years....
He admitted afterwards he took advice from a friend to keep concentrating, and also to curb his usually-aggressive tactics.
In the semi final Ashley Diamond defeated
Grant L'ami, in the other semi final Teri Anderson defeated Lloyd Bellis.
Teri Anderson won the Truth Cup for the woman doing best when all three other female contenders were eliminated in the round of 16. She has previously won the Cliff Thompson Trophy for the most successful junior, five times, and becomes the first person to win both trophies.
Lloyd Bellis from the Waimea club in Nelson won the Kath and Sen Smith Trophy for the person over 65 going furthest in the singles.
