Introduction
The sports club aims to provide a variety of sports events for all members of the community to participate in.  The club encourages well-being, growth and development of all its members by providing physical and supportive activities.

Open Days

The club will arrange open days for inexperienced paddlers to try out Waka Ama to encourage new members.

Teams
Teams will consist of 6 paddlers (male, female and mixed) for W6 which includes one team member nominated to captain and manage this team.  The Captain will be responsible for liaising directly with each of the team members for practices, regattas and any other team and club activity events.  The captain will also be the liaison between his/her team and the committee.  A key to access the shed will be provided to the captain and it is the captain’s responsibility to ensure all the equipment used is carefully stored away and cleaned after use.  It is the team’s responsibility to learn the safety guidelines and practice them at all times but it is the responsibility for the captain to reinforce this to his/her team.

Regattas
Regular regattas are setup throughout the year for long and short distances all over the country; the club will need to register with the National Waka Ama Association – Nga Kaihoe o Aotearoa Inc.  The committee will constantly update the captain on regattas and events that come up throughout the year.

Damage
Any damage to any of the clubs equipment must be reported immediately first to the captain and then to the Executive Committee (the equipment damage form must be completed by the captain – appendix).

If members caused the damage through careless use of the equipment, then the responsibility for repairing the damage rests with those involved.

If the damages were caused through accidental use (ie an accident), then the club would generally cover the costs to repair the equipment.  This will be negotiated with those involved depending on the extent of the damage.

If the damages were incurred through no fault of your own, but through the careless actions of a third party, then it is the responsibility of those members involved in the incident to pursue appropriate recourse.

Paddles
The club encourages paddlers who are serious about Waka Ama to purchase their own paddles to suit their individual requirements.

Becoming a Member
The club encourages non-members to try out Waka Ama, and welcomes all paddlers from the Waka Ama community to use our Waka.  However any individuals that go out in the waka more than 3 times must then become a member of the club.

Borrowing Equipment
All requests to borrow the clubs equipment must be formally made through the club captain in the first instance and then in writing to the Executive Committee.  The Committee will review each application on a case-by-case basis and reserves the right to accept or decline.

It is the responsibility of the borrower to ensure that all the equipment used is returned promptly and in the order that it was received.  The borrower must ensure that the equipment is safeguarded at all times when it is not stored away in clubs secured shed.
