IKTT has 5 teams - Under 13s, Under 15s, Under 17s, Under 19s, and Premier grades. Eligibility requires all players to be under the age of their age group by 1 January 2024 eg. if you are 12 years old on 1 January 2024, you are eligible to trial and play in the U13 team.  If you are 13 years old on 1 January 2024, you must trial and play in the U15 team which is the eligibility format for all age groups.

To be eligible to play and trial for an Ikaroa ki te Tonga team you must be able to:

  • Whakapapa to an iwi Maori o Aotearoa
  • Live in Raukawa, Kapiti, Kapi Mana, Wairarapa, Heretaunga, Ati Awa and Poneke rohe/regions
  • Attend at least 2 trials unless discussed with Netball Co-Ordinator
  • No boys/tama are able to trial for these teams
  • Trial for one age grade.  If a player choose to trial in a higher grade and is unsuccessful, the player may not "retrial" for other grades
  • Commit to the kaupapa of Ikaroa ki te Tonga Maori Netball


As a member of Ikaroa ki te Tonga Maori Netball, your whanau and kotiro are required to fulfill the following commitments:

  • Fundraising
  • Training sessions, games and tournaments organised by Team Officials
  • Weekend noho to whakawhanaungatanga and learn about the kauapapa of Maori Netball in particular the history of how "Ikaroa ki te Tonga Maori Netball" and the National body, "Aotearoa Maori Netball Oranga Healthy Lifestyle" align with each other.
