Kimura Shukokai New Zealand

Kimura Shukokai New Zealand can trace its lineage back to Master Kenwa Mabuni, founder of Shito-ryu.

Kenwa Mabuni (1889 – 1952) studied with both Nahte and Shurite masters in Okinawa and used his knowledge of both schools of karate to form Shito-ryu. As a result Shito-ryu has a large number of katas.
One of Master Mabuni's senior students was Master Tani (Tani-ha Shito-ryu), founder of Shukokai Karate.  Master Tani was born in 1921 and his head dojo was in Kobe, Japan.

Sensei Shigeru Kimura was one of Sensei Tani's senior students. After a very succesful tournament career Sensei Kimura left Japan in 1964 to teach and develop Shukokai Karate worldwide. His travels took him to South Africa, Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia), Europe and then America where he established his honbu dojo in New Jersey.

Kimura Shukokai New Zealand is affiliated to Kimura Shukokai International and Karate New Zealand.
