Haere mai ki Ruma Iwa
Welcome to Room 9!
Room 9 is a Year 3 & 4 class in the Middle Syndicate.
What's happening in Term 3?
Along with a continued focus on reading and writing...
Maths:
- Equations (Week 1)
- Time (using clocks, calendars, timetables) and temperature (Weeks 2-4)
- Statistics: Gathering, graphing & discussing data (Weeks 5-7)
- Fractions (Week 8)
- Geometry: Directions, maps & grids (Wks 9-10)
Health: Keeping Ourselves Safe (Weeks 4-6) This is a school-wide programme designed to give students the skills to cope in situations involving abuse, and is supported by our Police School Community Officer. Parent support with related homework activities will be really helpful. For information for parents/whanau Click here
Our main PE focus is on endurance running - in preparation for Lucknow's cross country at Anderson Park at the end of Week 6.
The term will culminate with 'Move It!', our biennial production involving the whole school in a celebration of the performing arts. Room 9 will be involved in singing and dancing (plus kapa haka elective).
In Term Two our inquiry focused on Te Marae, with the highlight being a fieldtrip to Matahiwi Marae. At the moment (early Term 3) we are busy creating cross stitch patterns inspired by the tukutuku at the marae.
In Term One our inquiry centred around how animals surivive. This culminated in a fieldtrip to the rocky shore during EOTC week. That week we also hiked to the top of Mt Erin and had a sleep-over at school.
As in Term 1, our library day is Friday. Middle Syndicate Discovery Time is now after lunch on Wednesdays (beginning at 1:45pm). If you would like to assist with any Discovery Time activities, your involvement would be most welcome - please let us know.
If you have any queries or concerns, or would just like a chat about your child, please don't hesitate to contact me. Together we can make a difference!
