2016 National Mountain Biking Championships

Held at Cardrona Alpine Resort 18-20 March 2016.

Cross Country - XCO

             U19   2nd Jack Wilson - Silver Medal

            U15   3rd Angus Riordan - Bronze Medal

Under trying conditions of rain, wind gusts, cloud white outs, altitude 1800M and Alpine temperatures our riders proved they are up with the best of New Zealand riders on a steep, rocky uphill skifield course - not a tree in sight for protection just open ridges with long climbs with elevations of over 350 m per 4 km laps, the wet rocky - loose schist and sharp rocks made the downill sections just as challenging.

Congratulations to our Club riders and a big thank you to Bike Wanaka and Cardrona Alpine Resort for organising a well run event.

A steep and challenging course based on the downhill tracks under the Gondola hillside in the heart of Queenstown with spectacular views.  The riders had difficult uphill sections on tracks not designed for the uphill climb and then steep down grades that do not often see the XC type bikes on this terrain, all the riders that took on this challenge should be congratulated for their outstanding riding ability on a international type track set up.
