It was obvious very early from the newsletters and communications that the club rated social events highly.  Many of the local swimming events such as the Rangitoto swim and club days concluded with a BBQ, breakfast or something similar, as were the many of the committee meetings - a tradition that continues to date!

The venues named for all the social events noted in the newsletters would make an extensive and comprehensive Auckland Restaurant and Bar guide!

The club valued other activities that members were doing also and in the June 1989 newsletter offered the following people and activities for other members:
Toby - Running
Martin - Aerobics
Monique - Massage
Vincent - Heavy Breathing!!!

Birthdays were also a feature of the newsletters where a no-holds-bar approach was taken. Not only the person but the age revealed. Engagements, births and marriages (not necessarily in that order) were also another feature of the newsletters.

Of course, there was always the event calendar with the up and coming masters swimming meets and events. The latter information was important as the club during those formative years was very active and successful with its swim meet participation.

The early newsletters were collated and written by Vincent Barnao six times a year. Vince wrote these until October 1994. There was a break in the regular communications until December 1998, when Anne Brenan, then secretary of the club reintroduced the newsletters. Now of course the club has a website where information is updated more easily and newsletters” are sent via email.
