Welcome to Paroa Rugby and Sports Club Website.

Paroa Rugby and Sports Club is a friendly family orientated club that was first established in 1921.  The club is located to the west of Whakatane also known as Te Paroa, or as local iwi interpret “Te Puku o Te Wheke” or the centre/stomach of the Octopus.  This is how the Club adopted their logo “Te Puku o Te Wheke”.  More about the cultural history of the Te Paroa area and how it relates to the Club can be read below.

The rich history and memories that the Paroa Club possess is the reason that Paroa Club has become one of the best established Rugby and Sports Club in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.  Paroa have played an important and proud role in Whakatane Rugby and have produced some fine players, many of whom have achieved higher honours.  Like many clubs Paroa has had their challenges through the years but have always been determined and committed to their Club and as a result have come through difficult times.

It is important to remember that all great players need a platform to become the best that they can be in their given sport code.  All local Clubs such as Paroa Rugby and Sports Club play a valuable role in producing great sports persons.  Paroa Rugby and Sports club endeavours to nurture and encourage growth to all their players so that they can reach their potentials as great players and individuals.

We invite you to become members to a club that is rich in history but is also forward thinking.  Paroa Rugby and Sports Club will be here in many years to come and we invite you and your family to become part of the Clubs future.
