Welcome to
Rembuden Karate Club
What is Karate-Do?

Karate translates to "empty hands" and implies weaponless self defence. "Do" means way of life. Thus Karate-Do means to practise the art of Karate as a way of life.

Rembuden Kilbirnie Karate is an independent Okinawa Goju Ryu School of Traditional Karate. We are a small suburban dojo based in Kilbirnie, Wellington.

Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate translates to:

Okinawa: the place of origin in the Ryu Kyu Islands of Japan. Goju" translates literally to hard/soft". "Ryu" means simply style.

Okinawa GOJU RYU  refers to a specific style of Karate-Do founded in Okinawa by Master Chojun Miyagi.

Goju also refers to his philosophy of life. The style is widely practised in New Zealand and internationally.
