Vintage Post Vintage Run 2021

Fourteen entrants gathered at the Clubrooms on a lovely sunny afternoon on Saturday 2 October.  With a smaller number of entrants the field tests were held in the new car park prior to entrants leaving on the timed section.  Field test required undertaking one tyre revolution while another had entrants trying to correctly calculate the height from the underside of their bumper to the ground.  There were some hurried conversions from inches to centimetres with some confusing centimetres with millimetres.  A series of questions tested entrants Olympic Games knowledge including that the next summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris, which last held them in 1924, and that the French flag is patterned in three vertical stripes in blue, white and red.  Entrants then departed on the timed section which took them out via Wallacetown to Lochiel where Audrey Hogg was waiting with timing device in hand.  Entrants were then able to travel at their own speed throughout some beautiful Southland scenery around Tussock Creek, Browns, Springhills and back to the Clubrooms for the announcement of the results.  My thanks to Howard and Julie for assisting with the field tests, Audrey for time keeping and Sheryn for processing the results.  And a big thank you to those who participated.

Vintage Post Vintage Run 2019

A bleak, overcast morning in October could not stop the enthusiasm of the people in the 14 vehicles that headed off on the Vintage / Post Vintage Rally.

Meandering around the countryside along some familiar and unfamiliar roads and god forbid, a stretch of good old gravel road! Answering a few questions along the way, we headed out along the Old Dunedin Road, admiring the rolling country, and, would you know it, we got hooked up in the middle of a cycle tour. Good thing it wasn’t in the timed section.

Rolling on, we finished up at the Gore VCC where we had warm surroundings for lunch and this is where the field tests took place, ideal with no mud.  Credit to the timekeepers and the field test helpers who braved the wet
conditions.  Thanks to the organisers for giving us a fun run.

Vintage Post Vintage Run 2018

On a clear but slightly breezy day 14 vehicles gathered at the Clubrooms for the start of this run. At 1:10 the first vehicle left followed by the others for a short 5 mile time section and then in their own time continued out through Moores Road, Wallacetown, back thru Wilson Crossing to Grove Bush, Woodlands to Morton Mains eventually ending up at the old Mokotua School now the Murihiku Scout Camp.

Here we had a couple of children’s games for the field tests. It was interesting watching the adults do these tests. Bruce Marshall had a lot of trouble doing the jigsaw puzzle (aged 3 +). The fastest times for the field tests was by Olly Olsson – must be all the leisure time you have Olly. It was a good thing that John Burke had his daughters with him to help with the field tests. While we had afternoon tea and social time Wayne Calderwood decided he needed to adjust his steering position to make Huppie more comfortable to drive.

About 4ish we headed back to the Clubrooms for prize giving.  An enjoyable afternoon with some folks not aware of the facility at Mokotua and how sheltered it was. Could be a venue for an overnight stay sometime.

2017 Vintage/Post Vintage Rally 14 October 2017

With rain forecast and after a scrumptious morning tea provided by

Louisa and friends, 21 vehicles sallied forth on the Vintage/Post Vintage

rally.

After a short time trial we headed out through lush farmland on a highway

lined with dead flax bushes arriving in Riverton as participants in the Riviera

Touring Car Show. This was a grand display of 416 classic cars,

some old, some more modern. Petrol head heaven. Some were sporting

huge souped up engines, some original versions and some with absolutely

glorious paint jobs. The winner’s prize of $200 petrol would not take

these very far. We all found a car we used to own in the past, great memories.

All of our vintage models made it safely back home, although one had to

make a spark plug change to do so. Nice to see entrants from as far away

as Riversdale and Cromwell.

The sun had come out and a good day was enjoyed by all.

Many thanks to Ray and Janet for organizing an interesting event.
