SportWaimate's Annual

TRIATHLON/DUATHLON
Sunday March 20th 2016

This Triathon/Duathlon is aimed towards introducing sport into families and workplaces, and making it fun!

The distances are short, so anyone can try it out.

Working together as a team in encouraging each other adds to the fun and competition between other team members.

Doing some training beforehand will make it more worthwhile, more fun, and make you fitter!

For some training programmes to follow, click the link below to take you to the TryTr@iner page for the Weet-bix Tryathlons.  Use this for children, or for yourself!

SWIMMERS:

Swimming is often the part that people fear the most in Triathlons. In this Triathlon, the venue is the Waimate Pool, so it is perfect - shallow, safe and there are no creatures living in it.

Get down to the pool a couple of times a week, and do some length training for 30 minutes, don't forget to practise some sprint work too!

CYCLISTS:

Check your bikes out and make sure the tyres are pumped up and no brakes are rubbing, and chain is oiled.  Sprinting around the velodrome is excellent and safe for all ages.  Practise on continuous pedalling for 30 minutes a couple of times a week.  throw in a hill if you feel adventurous!

RUNNERS:

Get some good running shoes and start running short distances at a time if you're not into running yet. Best time is early morning or in the evening to avoid the heat of the day.  Remembering to stretch after your run takes away some of the stiffness in the legs.  Running on grass also helps.  Running for about 15 mins a couple of times a week will be enough for the racing in our event.
