SEASON LENGTH:

Start of May to the end of August.

WHEN ARE GAMES PLAYED:

All grades except Under 5s play on Saturdays, mostly in the mornings. The older grades, Under 12s and Under 13s, can end up with 11.30am or early afternoon games. To work out what grade your child can play, the age group depends on what age your child is on 1st January 2017 – EG if he/she was 8 years old on the 1st January, he/she can play in the Under 9s.

GAME TYPE

for different age groups: Under 5s to Under 7s is Ripper Rugby – non contact. Under 8s is the start of tackle, Under 8s to Under 10s is half field. Under 11s to Under 13s is full field rugby, and there’s no pushing in the scrums till Under 12s, but even only on a limited basis.

WEIGHT:

If you are concerned about your child’s size in a contact sport, there are ‘Restricted Weight’ teams for every age group for tackle rugby.

The restrictions are:

Under 8 Restricted - 31kg and under

Under 8 Capped - 47kg and under

Under 9s & 10s are combined this year into the following sections:

Under 10 - 35kg and under

Under 10 - 40kg and under

Under 10 - 50kg and under

Under 10 - 60kg and under

Under 11 Restricted - 43kg and under

Under 11 Capped - 65kg and under

Under 12 Restricted - 49kg and under

Under 12 Capped - 74kg and under

Under 13 Restricted - 55kg and under

Under 13 Capped - 83kg and under

If a child is over the capped weight for a grade he/she must go up as many grades as necessary till they are within the weight limit.

Boys AND Girls: Junior Rugby, can be played at any grade by boys OR girls.

UNIFORM/EQUIPMENT:

Each player needs to procure the club socks. Boots need to be acquired for ALL grades – with either studs or plastic moulds (completely optional). The club then loan their jerseys and which MUST be returned at the season’s end. Each jersey has a serial number and will be tracked down. Full numbered sets are distributed and collected before and after each full field game, which enables coaches to field players in different positions each week, and ensures sets stay complete – Under 5s get to keep their T-Shirts, given out at the season’s start. Mouth-guards are to worn at ALL grades from Under 5s to Under 13s, without fail, every training and match, or your child will be sitting on the side-line watching not playing. You may wonder why for Ripper Rugby, but we have had head clashes with the little ones, and as rare as that may be, it is a requirement and we don’t want anyone to miss out on playing (it’s good for them to get used to it as well). Water bottles are always required for training and games.

ALL players will be contacted by early April, if you have not, please contact the club.
