HOT PRESS NZ from NZTA
As of April 1st 2024, all EV and PHEV cars will have to buy a Road Usage Charge (RUC) Licence and display it on the windscreen. You have until May 31st to buy the RUC Licence without the risk of penalty.
The RUC rate for light EVs will be NZ$76 per 1000km (the same rate applied to diesel cars) and for PHEVs will be NZ$53 per 1000km plus admin fees of NZ$12.44 (online) or NZ$13.71 (over the counter) or NZ$14.87 (phone/fax) when you pre-pay for a block of 1000km or more. You pay ahead of time of the distance you are going to travel, in units of 1000km. The first time an EV owner buys their RUC licence they’ll need to give their odometer reading at the time of purchase. If they give an inaccurate odometer reading, it may be picked up at the vehicle’s next WOF and the owner may be invoiced for any difference. Only light EVs (those weighing 3500kg or less) are losing their RUC exemption on April 1st 2024.
Heavy electric vehicles will require RUCs from December 31, 2025

Current Australia Travel Advisory for Thailand LINK
Warning - Keep a close watch on your belongings at the Bangkok Airport. To report missing money or property, passengers can contact an airport information booth or call the 1155 hotline. Thailand still continues to experience local transmission of COVID-19. The dominant COVID-19 strain in Thailand is JN1. Wear a mask, practice social distancing and follow government restrictions. Do monitor the air quality index in Bangkok (if Haze, do limit your outdoor activities). Anything below 100 is satisfactory. Take necessary precautions if AQI is over 100. If 150 or higher, please stay indoors. If you are out and about, please pay close attention to your personal security. Please be aware of the extreme heatwave in Bangkok. It could reach as high as 39C. Do drink lots of fluid. October can be a period of scorching heat, humid and heavy rainfalls in the late afternoon.

Shopping Fake - You can find any Looks-A-Like under the sun in Bangkok at any night markets and at the MBK (Ma Boon Khrong) Centre Mall opens from 10am to 10pm. Do get used to haggling. Start with 50% off the price tag. Don't be afraid to walk away, if you think the price is not favourable. There will always be other shops. Bangkok is a haven for counterfeits. If you are into originals, it is a safer bet to buy in NZ. MBK is probably Bangkok most iconic mall renowned for the "close substitute to the real thing" If you are interested in the 'you-know-what-I-mean' watches, it will not be displayed, just ask the retail watchshops. A brochure will appear. If you managed to pay 60% of the offered price, you got a fair deal. There are also lots of branded clothings, bags, caps, running shoes and designer sunglasses at unreal prices. If the price is too good to be true, then it is a F. Just stick to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor. Avoid the weekends. Its jam packed. Oh here's a few tips. Give the fake electronics eg headphones a miss. The sound quality is crap. Make sure to try on every piece of clothings you are buying. Asian sizes differ from Kiwi size. Check the stuffs that you bought in the bag before you leave the shop. Finally, what can I say. Do accept the fact that you are paying for what you get. A fake is just a fake.
There are better places to eat at a cheaper price than the foodcourts inside MBK.

NZ'ers get up to 90 days Visa-Free access to Malaysia. The Best Value Place to Live - Kuala Lumpur
I do usually spend 90 days in Malaysia with KL as hub every year (July, Aug, Sept) to escape the NZ winters. Its more affordable to live comfortably in Malaysia than NZ. Less than NZ$350/wk. Premium airbnb, Good value healthcare/ dentalcare, excellent infrastructure and wifi coverage, yummy food & shopping galore.
If you're booking through Airbnb, do request for recent photos of the apartment that you enquired. The agent might be representing a few apartments in that condo, hence what you see on the webpage might not be what you get. Airbnb is so much cheaper if you book the place for a month or longer. By the way, if on arrival, the apartment smells musty or like sewage, do walk away from it or ask for another apartment.
If you are thinking of retiring in a foreign country as an Expat, I would advice that you do consider this 2 issues, that is, what course of action you want to take if you die in a foreign country. Secondly, if you do have assets in your motherland country and in your foreign retirement country, you should do TWO wills. There are some countries that regularly change their taxation policies eg Thailand, Singapore, Canada, Australia, Vietnam. It creates uncertainty. Thats the last thing you want in an expat retirement plan. If you are on a pension, then the Argentina Pension Visa is worth a look. The Argentine Pensionado Visa is a one-year visa renewable for three years, after which you can apply for permanent residency. You can also apply for Argentine citizenship after two consecutive years of residency. Argentina recognizes the right to dual citizenship. Since Argentina citizenship cannot be renounced, most countries that don't allow dual citizenship have to make an exemption for this.
Philippines and Malaysia has a territorial tax policy which means that income generated within the country source is subjected to tax. Income earned from foreign source is normally not taxed. Thats the beauty of it.
Philippines SRRV (Special Residence Retirement Visa) lifetime visa for over 50+ and Sarawak-MM2H (Sarawak Malaysia My 2nd Home) for over 30+ has a much friendlier approach for expat retirement programme.
Malaysia offers MM2H (Malaysia My Second Home). Currently there is the Federal MM2H LINK and the Sarawak MM2H LINK programme. The long awaited Sabah-MM2H initiative will commence in May 2024.
The federal MM2H has 3 categories, Platinum, Gold and Silver. You are required to stay at least 60 days in Malaysia. Only the Platinum allows you to apply for Permanent Residence in Malaysia. Initially you will need to put a 1-year term deposit of RM$5m with a designated bank. After 1 year you can split it in half to deposit and property. You can apply through certified agents through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia.
Sarawak and Sabah is in (Borneo) East Malaysia. The recent Sarawak MM2H is quite welcoming. With Sarawak MM2H you can reside in both Sarawak and Peninsula Malaysia. If you have schooling kids, then proceed with the kids enrolment before you apply for the Sarawak MM2H.

PVIP might be under review soon. A lot of countries have already scrapped the "golden visa" scheme eg Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Could PVIP be next.
If you have lotsa dollars, there is the PVIP (Premium VIP) visa introduced in 2022. The principal applicant pays RM200,000 and RM100,000 for each dependent, and RM2,000 a year in annual fees. The principal applicant must have an income of at least RM40,000 a month offshore and RM1 million to deposit in a local bank. After a year, they can withdraw half the sum to buy real estate and pay education fees or medical expenses. PVIP residents can work, do business, buy properties and invest in permitted industries. A PVIP holder is granted a multiple-entry pass to stay in Malaysia for up to 20 years. To date, the successful PVIP holders came from Bangladesh, China, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey and USA.

Forewarned: If you are coming to Malaysia for the first time, please be prepared for the Culture Shock. It is quite normal for everyone to talk to you at the same time before you have the chance to reply. And it is not unusual for you to be interrupted by others as well as the person you are talking to while you are in the midst of your talk. At times, the conversation topic can change unexpectedly. It could be a habitual behaviour. Sometimes you wonder if they are listening to what you say. They talk for the sake of talking. The Malaysian English accent, grammar, talking excitingly fast with hand gestures and a fusion of Bahasa, Chinese and English in a conversation can be quite daunting. I do wonder sometimes whether their brain can keep up with their mouth. Malaysians do get overly enthusiastic about their chat and the food. Food is something that you cannot escape from in Malaysia. It's Everywhere. Eating wherever whenever is a way of Life.
Surviving the Day: Be mindful of the people and the situation around you. Pick up the habit of exchanging pleasantries. A simple courtesy can have a lasting impression. Be genuine with your eye contact and conversation. It makes the other person feels special and you to be appreciated. Show your social grace and you might end up exchanging FB, Instagram, Whatsapp. By the way, part of the Malay culture is that when people offer you food, it is polite of you not to decline. Your left hand should never be used to handle food under any circumstances. If the food is that delicious and you need a little bit more, the etiquette is to leave some food on your plate before you top up. If there is a couple pieces left on the dish plate, do not take the last piece. Both remaining pieces are to be taken simultaneously by you and the person before you. Every grain of rice is sacred hence, you should only scoop enough rice that you can consume. If you are invited to dinner, do bring "buah tangan" - a gift of fruits or sweeties. That's the Malaysian Way. Do be open-minded.
News from World Games 2025 - Chengdu, China from August 7 - 17th LINK
Latest Update July 10th 2023 - Tenpin bowling has been unexpectedly removed from the competition program. The International World Games Association (IWGA) decision was motivated by the unavailability of all phone numbers associated with the International Bowling Federation (IBF) the IBF office and bank accounts in Lausanne, Switzerland being closed and most concerning is the fact that all letters directed to the IBF President have gone unanswered, leaving crucial queries unresolved. Adding to the already mounting concerns, it has come to light that the IWGA annual fee for 2023, which should have been paid by the IBF, was instead covered by an unknown private individual.

Current Frame Scoring System
In the Current Frame Scoring system, a strike counts as an automatic 30 points, a spare counts for 10, plus the first-ball count in the current completed frame. It doesn’t matter what you knock down in frame number 2, and an open frame counts for actual pins knocked down. There is no “third ball” to roll in the 10th frame, nor are there any extra balls to roll in the 10th frame because your score is an immediate score. A strike in the 10th frame, it’s simply an automatic 30 points in frame number 10, so with this new scoring method, you don't need to bowl ball 11th and 12th, a 300 game is still possible, but only 10 strikes score the perfect game. The same applies to the Spare on the 10th frame. Hence, the 10th frame counts the same as all other frames. The maximum score for a perfect game is still 300.
Standard Scoring System is when you bowl a strike in a frame, the score for that frame is always 10 plus the next two balls rolled, a spare in a frame, the score for that frame is always 10 plus the next ball rolled.

You need to have the right attitude, set a realistic goal with disciplined conviction, time management and consistency, good fitness and nutrition, and the positive energy to perform beyond your limits. Your performance needs a Result! Every tournament is an opportunity for you to chase your dream. Embrace the failures along the way, take notes, and acknowledge it. Ask for help. Establish a support network. Take pride in upkeeping your equipment. Change is inevitable, make it early, and move forward.
While being competitive is healthy, do make it a habit to practice fair play and sportsmanship in the spirit of the game. Our choices and our past always have a way of catching up to us no matter how hard we try to make them go away. Hence, play the game with dignity. There is this maxim, Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. Respect is never a given, it has to be earned.
And, do remember that your Body Language mirrors your thoughts. You are only a team player when you offer spirited encouragement and positive communication to your teammates.
Please portray yourself as an ambassador of this sport when it arises. Pass It Forward.
Be generous in sharing your learned skills and experiences with others when asked for.
"When we teach, we learn." Its like a self-refresher. That's the Joy of Giving.

Update July 10th 2023 - Tenpin bowling has been unexpectedly removed from the competition program. The International World Games Association (IWGA) decision was motivated the unavailability of all phone numbers associated with the International Bowling Federation (IBF), the IBF office and bank accounts in Lausanne being closed and, most concerning, the fact that all letters directed to the IBF President have gone unanswered, leaving crucial queries unresolved. Adding to the already mounting concerns, it has come to light that the IWGA annual fee for 2023, which should have been paid by the IBF, was instead covered by an unknown private individual.

A Foreword by the then Governor-General of New Zealand, Patron, Bowls New Zealand
Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae QNZM, QSO
Government House, New Zealand
An Extract - Bowls is one of the few sports that crosses age and gender barriers, allowing men and women of different ages to compete with and against each other. Only in bowls could a school student team up with a retiree (and 1990 Commonwealth Games medal winner) to win the Wellington mixed pairs title as Euan Wong (18) and Judy Howat (76) did in 2011!
It was an honour and a privilege for my family to be invited to celebrate this 2011 Centennial at the Government House, New Zealand

Truthfulness is to strike and defend without deception. Nothing is Truer Than Truth.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but rather in humility. Value others above yourselves. Philippians ch2: 3

For in much wisdom is much grief, and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
Ecclesiastes ch1: 17 - 18
Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
St Matthew ch7: 1 - 2
