Cycling at TGS

Cycling is an exciting, competitive sport and has a great history at Takapuna Grammar School. TGS Cycling has produced many individual New Zealand Secondary School Champions, NZ Reps and a few riders have continued into professional teams.

The information evening and registration is held during Term 1, along with a pre-season camp in Cambridge. This is a fun weekend developing team building and base level riding fitness, it is a weekend all riders attend and look forward to.

Racing is held throughout Terms 2 and 3 in various formats, both in team aspects as well as individual races. The season is structured around the College Sport team time trial series held on road circuits and the Pukekohe race track. Additional races include individual time trials, road races, hill climb and criterium throughout the season.

Road cycling requires commitment in both time and effort from both riders and their families. Trainings are early mornings apart from one session after school for spin training held in the school gym.

A well set up cycling committee facilitates the delivery of the cycling programme along with support from our preferred cycle mechanic, Cycle Service, our local shop Kiwivelo, and a very experienced coaching team.
