Bell Block enjoy softball win over Waitara Bell Block edged out Waitara 7-5 in a Taranaki women's club softball match at Bell Block's Hickford Park on Saturday.Runs were hard to come by in the early stages of the game, with BeII Block taking the lead first before Waitara hit back in the second innings to lead by one. BeIl Block took the lead again in its third turn at bat, with Cindy Rupapera having a consistent day with the bat.Waitara's Caprina Te Wake managed a two-base hit with loaded bases to score all three runs before BeIl Block took the next batter out, retiring the side, to avoid conceding any more runs. Spotswood United Women scored a comfortable 15-0 win over New Plymouth Girls' High School. The school side only just managed to field a team and struggled to get batters on base. Most of its hits were into the air, making easy outs for Spotswood. Tammy Oxenham on the mound for Spotswood picked up seven strikeouts. Te Atiawa Men beat Marist L0-5. The scores were tied in the third innings before Te Atiawa got bat to ball, starting with a bunt from Harley Brown. The next two batters made two base hits, followed by another one-base hit to score five runs. Marist replied with four quick runs but, in its final turn at bat, Te Atiawa took out its three batters without them getting on base. In its final bat, Te Atiawa continued its consistent batting with Anton Aldridge getting away a two-base hit with runners on base. Bell Block Men was too strong for Te Atiawa, winning 15-5. Bell Block started strongly with Stewart Liddicoat batting in one other plus himself with an automatic home run in the first innings. By the second innings, BeIl Block had increased its lead by seven. Te Atiawa had a good third turn at bat, forcing errors in the field to close to within three, but that was as close as it got. Isaac Hekenui batted in four of his team-mates with some well placed hits to the field and Taani Prestney scored three from two well-placed bunts. Anthony Kipa and Tumai Piripi also managed to get away three base hits with runners on to add to the total.
