To ensure the utmost care of all ponies at U17 WTC NZ we require all ponies to be enrolled by submitting the Pony Enrollment Form. This includes all Pool Ponies, Self Sourced Ponies & Self Owned Ponies.

The enrollment questions, cover relevent information for the safe keeping of your pony/ies throughout the duration of the competition.

All ponies come under the same care once they arrive at Home Base on Saturday 18th November. 

Pony Owners responsibilities (Pool Ponies & Self Sourced)

  • Ensure ponies arrive at Papatoetoe Pony Club on 18/11/17 between the hours of 8am & midday. 
  • Once ponies are checked in, they will be on a rostered schedule for feeding, grazing out and riding. Due to a busy programme, it is important that the schedule for ponies is followed.  Should pony owners have any concerns about the schedule they need to speak to the Team Host or the Pony Coordinators. 
  • Ponies are to be presented with ALL paper work completed and signed.
  • Ponies are to be presented fit and well.
  • All feed, tack etc is to be labeled and easily identifiable.
  • All tack must be presented in a safe, fitting and clean condition.
  • If your pony normally wears shoes, it is to be shod no earlier than 3 weeks prior to the event and no later than 2 weeks prior to the event.
  • Once ponies arrive at homebase, they are under the care of the Pool Pony Coordinators and Team Hosts. This applies to pool ponies and self sourced. Should pony owners have any concerns please speak to your the Team Host or Pony Coordinators.
  • All communication/concerns from Pony owner should be addressed to the Team Host as the first point of communication. Please could Pony owners refrain from going to the riders directly. Pony owners can offer advice if asked for.
  • Owners are to ensure that pony(ies) are introduced to electrolytes at least 6 days prior to event and supply enough feed for 10 days. We are endeavouring to get feed sponsored for this event, but it pays to bring the feed your pony is familiar with.

Pony Borrowers/Riders responsibility

  • To replace any damaged or missing tack.
  • Cover the costs of the equine services as deemed necessary by Pony Coordinators while they are borrowing the ponies. eg veterinary or farrier.
  • Note ponies feed and water intake.
  • Yards to be cleaned daily.
  • Communication to Team Hosts for any pony wellbeing issues.

The responsibility of NZMGA Pony Coordinators 

  • To ensure ponies are sound and fit on arrival.
  • Check in and out, tack, feed and ponies.
  • Ensure teams take the utmost care of ponies and tack.
  • Note ponies feed and water intake.
  • Check ponies for signs of distress, ill health and/or unsoundness.
  • Consult with pony owner if type of feed needs to be altered.
  • Consult with pony owner if any tack is added. (apart from reins & stirrups/leathers)
  • Ensure paperwork is correctly completed and available if needed.
  • Make a call if pony is to be removed from event or venue with consultation with referee.
  • Make a call for farrier or vet if required.
  • Have all contact details for Team Hosts.

Ponies will be transported to and from Equitana by Trucks organized by the WTC committee. This is due to very limited parking at the ASB Showgrounds.

There will be a curfew time set for accessing the pony area to prevent ponies from being unsettled or disturbed.

Ponies cannot leave grounds once they are checked in to venue unless they have permission from the Pony Co-ordinators.

​​​​​​​Neither the New Zealand Mounted Games Association, Papatoetoe Pony Club, Equine Productions LTD nor the Under 17 World Team Championships 2017 organising committee will be held liable for the loss or injury to any pony. The decision as to whether or not a pony is insured and any costs incurred as a consequence of this decision lies entirely with the individual pony owner. Ponies/horses will not be insured through the New Zealand Mounted Games Association or the organisation of the event. In the case of self sourced ponies, pony owners do have the option to make their own arrangements with the rider/team concerned but the responsibility to do so lies entirely with the pony owner. The responsibility to honour such arrangements, lies entirely with the parties involved.

All participants, owners and others associated with this event are required to abide with all Heath & Safety Policies and Procedures for Equitana Auckland 2017 and act responsibly. All accidents and incidents must be reported to the mounted games organising committee as soon as practicable.
