1UNDERWATER HOCKEY

has a proud and inspiring tradition at Wellington College. For parents, it can be somewhat frustrating to follow, not being the most spectator friendly sport!  Despite this, we have a tight knit community and players share a passion for the sport.  Wellington College excels in underwater hockey on a national scale and has been recognised within the school in the annual sporting awards.

Keen to play?

All new players are welcome and no previous experience is necessary.

What you need to know...Underwater hockey is played in Terms 2 and 3.  Commitments during the year are two training sessions, one technical and one fitness based.  Games are on weeknights, once a week (juniors play Friday nights and seniors, Tuesday nights) and you will need to buy some equipment (UWH sticks, snorkel, mask and flippers) and have 2 training sessions per week Click here .  WC registration cost  covers pool hire.

Underwater Hockey 'Have a Go' Open Day

There will be  'Have a Go' Open Day for all boys interested in playing Underwater Hockey this year on SUNDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2021  At the WRAC Kilbirnie pool - all new players from 5pm with returning players from 6pm.

Equipment will be available for you to use, so all you need to bring are your togs and towel.   All boys and caregivers welcome.

Club Philosophy

The philosophy of the Wellington College Underwater Hockey Club is to grow and support the sport of Underwater Hockey at Wellington College, while at the same time having the objective of winning at Nationals (particularly at senior level) by selecting the best team to play at the national tournament.  We will be upfront with the boys that this is our goal and how we will be achieving this, particularly in regard to how teams will be selected.  We may adopt more flexibility around CSW games/Centrals tournament, in terms of team selection.  We also acknowledge the need to have flexibility around Juniors at Nationals, where we may take development of players into account dependent upon the circumstances while still aiming to field a competitive team.  We will foster good sportsmanship both in and out of the pool.

COSTS: $100 for Year 9, $125 for all other year groups (year 10-13)

TRAINING:  Thursday and Sundays from 6-7 pm, starting on Thursday 4 March and Sunday 7 March onwards.
