There is now an excellent place for young footballers to play with like-minded players in the Manawatu.

The Palmerston North United Academy (previously Red Sox-Massey Academy) 2022 for super-keen junior footballers.

We formed following the partnership born in 2022 between Red Sox Manawatu Sports Club and Massey University Football Club and from 2023 also including North End AFC.  As well as enhancing the senior clubs, it has allowed us to offer a pathway for male and female aspirational footballers of all ages.

Red Sox JFC continues to be our winter season option for anyone keen to play football in the local junior Saturday morning competition and most of our Academy players play for Red Sox JFC during the regular season and for most children this will be enough.  The Academy only has teams in the Central Development Leagues.  We do take teams to tournaments and arrange game days with clubs from outside the region. 

The academy is an opportunity for those players who already feel pretty serious about playing football to play with like-minded players. We  have extra expectations on the players regarding attitude and attendance and there are additional costs involved. The experience is only for those who have a huge passion for football and a desire to improve and learn more about the game, in a more professional but still fun environment.  We have players in all age groups U10-U15 who are not involved with the CDL squads.  We do not want to limit our Academy only to a select few.

Ricki Herbert Academy Partnership

We are lucky enough to be partners with the Ricki Herbert Football Academy.  This partnership has given our players the opportunity to attend the Ricki Herbert National Camp in Hamilton in January each year.

Following on from this players have the opportunity to travel overseas for a tournament with the RH3 group.  In 2025 players will be travelling for football tours to Australia, Chile and Portugal, playing against professional Academy teams such as Sporting Lisbon and Benfica.
