The Backbone of Softball

Umpires and Scorers are the backbone of our sport.

Whether you are retiring from your time on the diamond, fancy expanding your knowledge of the game, aspire to become a national level official, or just want to make a little pocket money on the side - There are opportunities to grow and develop, utilising the “Orange Shirt/Cap Programmes” as a stepping stone to leap into national qualification and progress through the pathways. It can be daunting, yet challenging and very rewarding, but without our volunteer Umpires and scorers, we can’t play softball.

Whatever your motivation, we welcome members of our softball community to get in touch and register to receive further information, guidance and support as you are welcomed into the fold by our dedicated group of umpires and scorers from all walks of life. While the 2023/24 season may be coming to a close, there will be opportunities to upskill in the off-season that we encourage you to take advantage of. Get in contact with your local club and/or association today to get involved.

The sport we love relies on volunteers who give their time freely, for no reward beyond our thanks. Softball New Zealand want to thank all the officials and volunteers who have made weekly games, regional and national tournaments so successful this season.
