We are Ahukura Hākinakina Netball club; a local netball club in Whangārei founded in 2019 to offer quality netball coaching at an accessible grass roots level  .We strive to create a positive learning environment & club culture, on & off the court, that nurtures whānaungatanga (relationships and a sense of belonging) and manaakitanga (caring for others), through rangatiratanga (self-discipline and prestige) and whakamana (integrity and power).

At Ahukura, netball is more than a game—it’s a powerful tool to build resilient, healthy young people.  We love empowering girls with skills, confidence, respect & discipline - both on and off the netball court.  We're passionate about ensuring every child in our community has access to the physical & mental health benefits of netball, regardless of their background.

Whānaungatanga/Connection/Inclusivity: We actively remove barriers (cost, gear, transport) so all kids can participate, fostering a sense of belonging. Loneliness is a growing issue. Here, everyone is part of a tribe that cheers for them, on/off the field.

Manaakitanga/Role Models: Our coaches/players mentor youth, showing what’s possible with dedication & support. Our Tuakana/Tēina relationships are of significant value for us (older role modelling behaviours for our younger club members).  Our 2025 season boasted 9 rangatahi Team Officials, giving back to the club by either coaching or managing our younger teams.

Stress Relief: Physical activity is proven to reduce anxiety & depression in youth. Our club fosters a safe outlet to unwind and connect.

Confidence Building: Mastering skills & contributing to a team helps kids develop self-worth—especially critical in today’s screen-heavy world.
