ATHLETES WITH DISABILITIES
Hākinakina Whaikaha
The Zespri AIMS Games objectives champion diversity and inclusion providing competition opportunities for students with physical, visual, intellectual, and other disabilities which disadvantages them to compete alongside their non-disabled peers. The focus of this inclusive event is on achieving personal bests and encouraging activity.
The sports of Swimming and Cross Country (adapted to athletics 800m) do not require any qualifying or eligibility criteria but the athlete’s disability must disadvantage them to participate or compete against their non-disabled peers in the open event.
In all other sports, athletes with disabilities can compete in an open class. See individual sports for entry requirements.
