Sir John 'DJ' Graham (1935-2017)

It is with great sadness that Auckland Rugby acknowledges the passing of life member Sir John Graham.

A player noted for his intelligence and turn of speed, Sir John debuted for Auckland in 1956, playing a total of 20 games, scoring 27 points playing as both flanker and No.8.

He also played a total of 22 tests for the All blacks between 1958 – 1964, captaining them in three, and scoring two test tries.

After retiring from rugby, Sir John was headmaster of Auckland Grammar School for 20 years, from 1973 to 1993 and Chancellor of the University of Auckland from 1999 to 2004.

His loss will be felt deeply in both the rugby and education community.

Auckland Rugby’s thoughts are with the Graham Family during this time.
