From Balclutha in the South, Wanaka in the West, Oamaru in the North and Dunedin in the East,  Otago is a huge region.  With 10 affiliated clubs; we have you covered.

Why Join A Club

Clubs offer multiple opportunites to experience Athletics the way you want to; be it as a harrier walking or running your way around Otago, or as a Track & Field Athlete in any of the Run, Jump or Throw events.

Clubs will offer you a variety of social, training and skill development opportunites, all the while having fun along side like-minded people.

Membership currently runs from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 but you can join a club at any time of the year.  For memberships 15+ social and 20+ Competitive, a 12 month rolling membership applies from date of registration.

Your club membership is managed online by Gameday and is made up as follows:

  • Athletics New Zealand Levy (fixed price for each age group)

  • Athletics Otago Levy (fixed price for each age group)

  • Club Levy (this will vary from club to club dependant on costs to run the club)

Membership tends to fall in one of the following age brackets;

6 & Under7-14 years15-19 years20 plus

Active Club Members can choose to be

Social        Member 

Weekly club nights, training and club champs.

Some clubs provide activities all year round.  Some may be more active during the Summer months.


Competitive Member

As above but additional benefits of:

  • Regular Interclub competitions throughout summer (at the Caledonian) & winter (varied locations around Dunedin).

  • Access to any other regional competition in NZ.

  • Opportunities to represent Otago at national events.


Members or any interested person over 16 can sign up with Athletics NZ direct as either a Volunteer* or Community Coach*.

*Athletics NZ is committed to promoting safe sport for our members and police vetting is a requirement.  ID Verfication is required is finalise your registration. This can be arranged by Athletics Otago.  Contact Sue Brydges to organise.

Community Coach*

Opportunities to upskill and/or work toward Athletics NZ accredited coach qualification. Free.
