Auckland Regional Rep Teams Announcement

The Auckland Dragon Boat Association is proud to announce the launch of the
Auckland Regional Representative Teams.

The eligible divisions for this first year will be Open Standard Boat (20s) and Women’s Standard Boat (20s) with each region able to enter two teams in each division.  These teams will race at the New Zealand Dragon Boat Nationals in a Regional Representative Final over a 500m race course, meaning paddlers will still be able to race at the Nationals with their home team.

Winners of the Regional Representative Finals will automatically be eligible (and expected) to represent New Zealand at the IDBF World Cup Competition.

NEXT STEPS

1.    Advertise and appoint Coaches and Team Managers

2.    Team try outs to be held between mid-January and no later than end of February 2017

Once the coaches are appointed, the ADBA will work with them to schedule training times, selection requirements and training camps; at this point we do not know this detail.

This announcement is to provide interested members a heads up so they can adjust their personal training plans to prepare for selection.

This is a combined initiative between the New Zealand Dragon Boat Association (NZDBA) and the regions which could not happen without the drive and passion of key people in those areas and is an incredibly proud moment in the history of the ADBA.  We expect to constantly review and improve the Regional Representative division over the first three years alongside the NZDBA with the aim to see New Zealand squads back in the top three World teams at the IDBF World Nations Championships.

We would like to thank the NZDBA for their support in this initiative.

Please see the ADBA Regional Representative Policy for full details and selection criteria.
