STEELE-SHANKS PREMIERSHIP 2026

Auckland Rugby League is proud to confirm the Steele Shanks Premier Women’s teams for the 2026 season: Richmond, Otahuhu, Mount Albert, Mangere East, Manurewa, and Pukekohe. These six clubs reflect the strength and momentum within our women’s rugby league community and will form the basis of an exciting, competitive season ahead.

For 2026, clubs were invited to enter through a structured expression-of-interest & application process. This approach allowed us to assess each club’s ability and intent to provide meaningful support systems, and long-term commitment to the women’s programme. The selection process ensured that teams were aligned with the values and operational standards needed to deliver a high-quality competition, while also recognising the work clubs are undertaking behind the scenes to build sustainable environments.

Letitia Taylor, Head of Womens Rugby League at ARL says - “This process has been designed to support clubs in providing a welcoming, equitable environment and a consistent platform for our women to thrive. I’m excited to be working with the selected teams for 2026, and it’s encouraging to see six clubs showing such strong commitment to growing the female game and strengthening pathways within their communities. Upholding these standards is an important step toward building a sustainable and expanding Premier Women’s competition, and we look forward to continuing this journey together with all of our clubs as the women’s game evolves.”

This framework represents an important step forward for the women’s game in Auckland. By implementing a clear and consistent entry model, we are laying the foundations for a more stable, well-supported, and future-focused competition. The 2026 season marks the beginning of a long-term vision designed to strengthen pathways, enhance player & coach experience, and ensure the ongoing sustainability and growth of women’s rugby league in our region.
