BMRC CLUB

Rugby is strong on the Pohutukawa Coast. Ever since the area was settled, residents have been playing and supporting rugby throughout the Auckland and Counties areas. Since the early 1970's our club has been fully affiliated to the Counties-Manukau Rugby Football Union, and now plays teams from Te Kauwhata to Manurewa and from Maramarua to Weymouth.

We are a welcoming, whānau-focused club with a relaxed, country-style atmosphere. Our philosophy is simple: live local, play local. Whether it’s kids learning to pass a ball for the first time or seasoned players giving back as coaches and mentors, our club is a place where people feel they belong.

Our rugby programme supports all ages and stages, starting with weeknight Rippa Rugby for preschoolers and Year 0 children. Players in Years 1 and 2 continue with Saturday morning Rippa games, held both at our home ground at Te Puru Park and across the Counties Manukau region. From Year 4 to Year 8, players move into tackle rugby, developing their skills in a structured and supportive environment.

We’re proud to champion girls’ rugby, offering dedicated Girls-Only Rippa Rugby teams from Year 3 through to Year 10, and extending to Year 12 where numbers allow. Year 3 to 8 teams play on Saturday mornings, while Year 9 to 12 games are played on Friday evenings, both around the Auckland Central area and at Te Puru Park. This gives girls a space of their own to thrive, have fun, and build confidence.

With 99% all-weather grounds, we minimise cancellations, helping families make the most of the winter season with consistent game time and training. Our facilities and dedicated volunteers make it easy for parents and players to stay engaged and enjoy the season from start to finish.

Our focus is on developing junior rugby, and we’ve seen incredible growth in recent years. At the same time, we’re proud of our senior representation, currently with a strong Under 85kg team and plans to expand into an Under 19 grade. Though we’re a smaller club, we punch above our weight thanks to our committed community, strong values, and deep love of the game.

To us, rugby is more than just sport, it’s about connection. It’s about tamariki learning new skills, parents cheering on the sidelines, lifelong friendships forming, and our whole community coming together. We believe in giving every child a chance to play, grow, and be part of something bigger. Rugby on the Pōhutukawa Coast is about heart, pride, and building a stronger future, one game at a time.
