Drama is a practical, literacy-rich subject which allows students to examine the world through a different lens and create meaning. Students learn every aspect of theatrecraft with practical experiences, producing performances and engaging with the local and national theatre community.

Drama at Birkenhead College is offered from Years 9 to Year 13. We have dedicated facilities, a supportive faculty and are fortunate to have a fully-equipped theatre which we often use for classes. Students have the opportunity to create their own original work as well as study and perform a variety of plays and theatre forms. At senior levels, students have the opportunity to perform a class play to the wider Birkenhead College community.

Students of Drama learn to become empathetic and engaged members of society.

Our school production for 2021, Puffs, was nominated for six Auckland Live Showdown Awards. This inter-school production competition saw Madeline Daun-Renner up against twelve other nominees from across Auckland in the Best Female in a Supporting Role category, and she won! We are very proud of Madeline for this great acknowledgment of her superb acting in the Cedric / Voldy roles in Puffs.

Madeline's win was announced at the online awards.
