What date is the actual event held on?

- 8am to 5pm

- 220m races

- Divisions: Corporate, Club, Premier, Senior, BC and Juniors Under 19(Finals subject to teams entered)

Is it a maximum of 10 paddlers and 1 caller or can i have more and switch people in and out of the races?
You can bring as many people as you like. There will be 3 heats and a final (4 races)

How much does it cost?
$350 per team (incl. GST)

What are the cut-off dates?
Registrations close 17 October 2023.

Do you have boats that we can use for this event?

Yes! All equipment, including boats, lifejackets, paddles and a sweep (someone to steer your boat) will be supplied both for the training day, and also for the event day.

When will our team be given training?
You will be scheduled a 1-hour on land/on water session between the dates: 17 October and 7 November 2023. This will be facilitated at Sulphur Point, Tauranga.  After registration you will be contacted to choose a preferred date within the schedule.

Is there only one training session?

Yes, with this event we offer a 1 hour session - a 15 minute run through on land which includes our safety briefing, about 30 minutes on water where we show you how to paddle, run through a race start, and give you some tips on what will work best on the day, followed by another 15 minutes back on land to go through any further questions.

Now in it's 16th year, the format has run generally the same as the above.

Do all members have to attend both training sessions?

There is only 1 training session provided - 1 hour which is on land an on water training. Since we run through our Health & Safety and basic technique, it is encouraged that as many people can attend the training session prior to the event day.

Do we get to pick what day we can make the trainings during that time period or is it subject to numbers?

AnneMaree will get in touch with you after registration to book in a training session - we will do our best to work out a session that fits in with your schedule during that time.

How many races does each team enter or is it just the one?

We will aim to have 3 heats and a final. So 4 races in total. This is a similar format to most dragon boat regattas.

How long does a race last?  Or distance wise how long is it?

As per the event flyer, the distance is about a 220m straight line course from the start line to finish line. How long in minutes depends on the team and if you all work together, you could see yourself getting over the line in a few minutes.

Do i need to know what i am doing?
No experience is necessary as full training will be provided

Can I enter more than one Team?
Yes absolutely! But remember, you will need to have dedicated paddlers and callers for each boat (as we wont be able to wait for people to hop between boats - this is known as 'double rostering' and is not permitted)

What is the maximum number of teams we can enter?
You may enter as many teams as you like (see above question) and we will cap the event at 36 teams (to ensure we have enough time to complete all the racing)

We have registered and want to change our Team Name - can we do this?
Yes - just send an email to [email protected] and we can update this information.

Can our team hold a raffle and sell tickets at the Regatta?
Selling of raffles must be approved by the Event Team prior to the event. Please get in touch with us stating what the prizes are and what the money is being raised for.
