Overseas Trip Opportunities

Reef and Rainforest

The Reef and Rainforest trip presents the opportunity to explore the only place in the world where two World Heritage Sites meet, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropical Forests of Queensland. The aim is to improve our knowledge of these special ecosystems by immersing ourselves in them and learning from the excellent guides and educators we encounter. Students should have a strong interest in Science, especially Biology, care about the environment and be prepared for adventure!

Space Camp

The Space Camp trip is an amazing opportunity for students to train as an astronaut and experience life in the USA. Every two years we aim to take a group to Space Camp, Alabama, and then onto Florida to visit Kennedy Space Centre where if they are lucky, see a rocket launch. Students need to have a strong interest in Science and Space, be prepared to work hard and throw themselves into dawn to dusk activities building a supportive team to fly the Shuttle simulator!

French Language Trip

Students studying French in Years 11-13 have the opportunity to take part in the three week French exchange. This exchange runs every second year at the end of Term 3. Students are hosted by families from our sister school, Lycée St Michel in Château-Gontier, Western France where they attend school and take part in excursions and activities in the area such as the Châteaux of the Loire and the Mont St Michel in Normandy. Students then spend five days in Paris exploring the famous sites of this beautiful city.  Exchange trips are always rewarding as students experience real French school and family life which are rarely available on a family holiday. Students who have taken part in an exchange trip return with happy memories and a better appreciation of the importance of learning another language and culture.

South America Trip

The South America Trip is a wonderful opportunity for Language students to completely immerse themselves in the culture and language of three different Spanish speaking countries. The trip involves a two or three day tour in Argentina, two weeks in Chilean home stays at our host sister school, Saint Mary Joseph in Santiago and a four day tour in Peru (Machu Picchu). To be eligible to go on the trip, students must be studying Spanish at a senior level in the year of the trip. The trip is always found to be extremely rewarding, especially for the cultural and language experiences, which are a great way to really understand the people, its traditions, and history. Students return with a new perspective on life, more language skills, and a willingness to learn.

Japan Trip

The Japan Trip is a three week visit to Japan for students studying Japanese in Years 11-13. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience first-hand Japanese language and culture. Places visited include, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kyoto, Hikone, Hiroshima, Kurashiki and Tokyo. There is a five day homestay programme during the trip and a school and kindergarten visit. Travel within Japan is by bullet train, standard train, bus, ferry, cable car and gondola. We fly direct to Japan from Auckland. Tokyo highlights include Shibuya, Harajuku, Sky Tree and Disneyland.

Technology Faculty Trip to New York

(Fashion & Textiles/Food Technology/Digital Technology)

Building on the very successful 2016 New York Technology Faculty trip, a now bi-annual trip to New York City, San Francisco and Washington DC will be offered. New York City offers a global perspective with a diversity of cultures, history and experiences. It is one of the most interesting and exciting cities on the planet and offers a great many opportunities for Technology Faculty students to experience what life could potentially offer them in terms of employment post education. It is also a trip to expose CHS students to the wider world and what it offers them as global citizens. A trip to New York would enhance the curriculum values, key competencies and principles as well as linking to the students own and wider learning areas. In short; the best way to reinforce what our CHS students learn is for them to experience it as closely as possible by offering them the most authentic learning experience outside of the classroom. Only available to Year 12 and Year 13 students.
