From 2022/23 onwards, this realigned tournament has replaced CDCA Boys Under 15

2023/24 TOURNAMENT


This is the second season with our new approach to this age group for secondary school boys in the Central Districts region


After a series of near-neighbour fixtures between teams, the CDCA BOYS YEARS 9 & 10 TOURNAMENT will take place in March 2024, with the venue to be confirmed. Teams are then selected for the NZC National Finals that will be held in Palmerston North from 18 to 22 March 2024!

2022/23 TOURNAMENT


This was our first season with this realigned age group tournament for secondary school boys in the Central Districts region.


After a series of near-neighbour fixtures, the CDCA BOYS YEARS 9 & 10 TOURNAMENT took place in Levin, January 16 to 18 2023 at Donnelly Park and Weraroa Domain. HAWKE'S BAY defeated NELSON in the Final to become the summer's champion

2021/22 TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to HAWKE'S BAY who won the 2021/22 tournament held 17-20 January 2022 at Donnelly Park, Levin, backing up last season's title.

TARANAKI had headed into the Final day with the tournament lead, but Hawke's Bay came through fighting in a rain-reduced 45-over match.

A great four days of cricket with lots of learning opportunities for the boys. Also lots of fun and activities (quiz, pools, backyard cricket) and meeting others from around the District Associations and making new friends. 


2020/21 TOURNAMENT

Our annual 2020/21 CD Under 15 tournament for boys took place in Levin this season from Monday 18 to Thursday 21 January 2021. This is 11-a-side cricket contested in both the T20 and 50 over formats over four days.

MANAWATU headed into the season as the defending title-holder after an unbeaten run through last summer's tournament, but this summer it was success for HAWKE'S BAY who defeated Taranaki in the final game to take home the trophy!



PLAYING CONDITIONS


Except as specifically provided hereinafter, The Laws of Cricket (1980 code, second edition, 1992) and any subsequent amendments shall apply to all matches.


1. MATCHES

The CD tournament will comprise of one pre-tournament limited overs (ideally 50 overs) fixture, plus two (2) limited overs matches (days 2 and 4) and four T20 fixtures – two on day 1 and two on day 3 - at the tournament.

All matches will be played according to NZC playing conditions for limited overs (except only one ball per innings is used) and T20 matches except teams will play 12 i.e. a nominated non-batsman and a nominated non-bowler.

In all cases each team shall comprise of no more than 12 players.


2. Nomination of Players (Law 1.2)

Prior to the toss for each match, team captains must provide opposing captains and the umpires a list of their Batting XI and their Fielding XI.

N.B. For the purposes of Playing Condition 9, Fielding XI lists are to clearly identify players deemed Pace Bowlers. The “12th man” may rotate sensibly as a fielder with the only restriction being their eligibility to bowl under normal rules. “Off the field” restrictions do not apply to batting. ('Sensibly' implies that fielders are not coming on and off too often. If there were three equally spaced changes in the innings that would be deemed as sensible).


3. Cricket Equipment

(a) Equipment: Each team shall provide its own full set of gear including a full set of stumps (County, 711mm) and bails

(b) Dress: In all matches, teams may wear either white cricket attire or coloured clothing.

(c) Balls: New four-piece red, Kookaburra, 156g balls are to be used. (One new ball per innings).

(d) Length of Pitch: 20.12 metres.

(e) Length of Boundaries: The minimum length of boundaries shall be 50 metres. – radius and the maximum length shall be 60 metres when measured from the centre. Where circumstances permit the maximum permitted boundary (60 metres) should be used.

(f) Scoring: Scoresheets and scoreboards shall be provided by the host association. Each team shall provide its own scorer. At tournament the respective district scorebook should be used as only one paper score sheet will be kept. CricHQ will be setup and is to be used where possible.


4. Hours of Play

The Tournament Manager has the final say re the hours of play but lunch will be taken at the change of innings in one day games and after game one and before game 2 on the T20 days.Travel to another venue will be factored into the duration of these breaks.(a) The hours of play set down in this playing condition may be varied by the tournament manager to suit local conditions. The hours may be varied to compensate for late commencement or interruption on account of weather but under no circumstances shall play continue beyond 6.30pm. Any variation in the hours of play shall be notified to all team managers prior to the commencement of the day’s play.The final decision re times lies with the tournament manager or his / her designates.(b) If the commencement of play is delayed by weather, or if play is interrupted by bad weather, the decision on the starting time or recommencement following an interruption shall be in the hands of the tournament manager in consultation with the umpires.


5. Length of Innings

As per NZC limited over playing Conditions. 

(a) 50 over matches – each innings should be completed in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

(b) T20 match – each innings should be completed in 1 hour and 20 minutes.


6. Play Suspended During Innings

(a) If play is suspended during a team’s innings the total number of overs still to be bowled shall be reduced by one over for ever four minutes lost and the entitlement of the team then batting shall be reduced by one half of the overs lost. For this purpose if the number of overs lost is an odd number the next highest even number shall be adopted.

(b) The side batting second will be entitled to the same number of overs as that received by the team batting first.

(c) If the suspension in play occurs when the side batting second is at the crease the number of overs remaining to be bowled shall be calculated as follows: Either: the number of overs still to be bowled shall be reduced by one over for ever four minutes lost, or, the number of overs still to be bowled shall be calculated by dividing the time remaining until the scheduled end of play as set out in Playing Condition 4(a) by four minutes and the calculation producing the greater number of overs shall prevail.

Target scores can be set by using CricHQ but if this forum is not available the following method should be used as per the instructions of the Tournament Manager.

(d) The target score to be passed to win the match shall be calculated by multiplying the revised total number of overs for the innings by the average runs per over scored by the team batting first. If the team batting first was dismissed in less than its full entitlement of overs, the calculation of the run rate shall be based on the full number of overs to which it was entitled.

(e) Where play has been interrupted by weather or ground condition, or by poor light, the match must continue until the team batting second has received its full quota of 50 overs or a reduced number of overs or is dismissed.


7. Over Rate

It is expected that a rate of at least 15 overs per hour will be maintained for all matches.


8. Limitation of Overs for Pace Bowlers

All pace bowlers (defined as bowlers where the wicketkeeper would normally stand back) are subject to a limitation of overs allowed to be bowled per day. This rule is made in the interests of player safety and follows extensive research findings throughout Australia. Coaches are asked to apply the rule strictly and not try to avoid it by bringing up the wicketkeeper artificially. Player safety must be placed as a higher priority than match results. In the event of any dispute at the tournaments, the matter should be referred to the Tournament Manager whose ruling will be final.

(Note: this restriction does not apply to spin bowlers)

Pace Bowlers – Under 15

Maximum of 6 overs per spell – even though all matches are limited overs matches.

At the completion of a bowler’s spell, the bowler may not bowl again until the equivalent number of overs, as the length of that spell, are bowled from the same end.


9. Number of Overs per Bowler

50 over matches – 10 overs maximum per bowler.

T20 matches – 4 overs maximum per bowler.

Shortened matches – Innings total of overs divided by 5. (eg. 32 over match – 2 bowlers can bowl 7 overs and 3 bowlers can bowl 6 overs).


10. Wide Balls and No Balls

(a) One day wides as per NZC Playing Conditions apply.

(b) Neither a wide nor a no-ball shall be deemed to be a legitimate delivery of the over.

(c) Only one delivery per batsman per over shall be allowed to pass above shoulder height when the striker is standing in their normal position. Any further deliveries over shoulder height shall be called a “No Ball”.

(d) Any delivery which passes on the full above waist height of a striker standing in their normal position shall be called a “No Ball” irrespective of the pace.

(e) Penalty: In place of Law 24.8 the following shall apply – a penalty of one run for a No Ball shall be awarded and shall in all cases be scored as No Balls. The penalty shall stand in addition to any other runs which are scored.


11. Mode of Delivery

(a) No bowler may bowl the ball underarm.

(b) If any delivery bounces more than twice before it reaches the batting crease, the ball shall be no-balled and treated according to normal No Ball rules. The umpire at square leg may call this delivery.


12. The Result

One Day games:

(a) A “win” can be achieved only if both teams have batted for at least 15 overs, unless one team has been all out in less than 15 overs or unless the team batting second scores enough runs to win in less than 15 overs.

(b) All other matches in which one or both teams have not had an opportunity of batting for a minimum of 15 overs, shall be declared no result matches. 

(c) If the team batting second has not had the opportunity to complete the agreed number of overs, and has neither been all out, nor has passed its opponents score, a no result will be declared.

T20 games:

(a) A “win” can be achieved only if both teams have batted for at least 5 overs, unless one team has been all out in less than 5 overs or unless the team batting second scores enough runs to win in less than 5 overs.

(b) All other matches in which one or both teams have not had an opportunity of batting for a minimum of 5 overs, shall be declared no result matches. 

(c) If the team batting second has not had the opportunity to complete the agreed number of overs, and has neither been all out, nor has passed its opponents score, a no result will be declared.


POINTS

  • A win in all matches (T20 and 50 over) will be worth 4 points. (Bonus points do not apply).
  • A tie – scores level - 2 points each.
  • Abandoned / no result - 2 points each.


Final placings will be based on a total of all points earned in all matches of both formats, followed by:

  1. Points obtained
  2. Who beat who in their respective match
  3. Most wins
  4. Net run rates i.e. Team A run rate per over minus Opposition run rate per over
