Port Hill United responded with a solid defensive spell and worked hard to stay in the contest, but Rovers kept pressing and found a third right on the stroke of half-time through Andrews again.

Port Hill showed more intent after the break and had moments going forward, but Rovers remained in control and made their chances count. Maddison Hughes added a late brace to finish the game strongly for the visitors.

Match of the Round:

This week's match of the round was between Feilding United AFC and Palmerston North United Reserves.

The visitors made a sharp start and took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes, with Jacob Riley finding the net to put Palmerston North ahead early. Feilding looked to respond, but it was Palmerston North who struck again just past the half-hour mark, as Keelan Wood doubled their advantage in the 31st minute.

Facing a two-goal deficit, Feilding United grew into the game and were handed a lifeline just before halftime. Matt Fellingham stepped up and calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute, reducing the margin to 2–1 and shifting momentum heading into the break.

The second half saw Feilding push for an equaliser, making several changes to inject energy and creativity into the side. Substitutions throughout the half brought fresh legs, and the home side applied pressure in search of a breakthrough. Despite their efforts, United’s defence held firm and limited clear-cut chances.

In the end, Feilding United were unable to find the equaliser, with Palmerston North United Reserves holding on to secure a 2–1 victory.

Match of the round:

Takaro AFC Reserves claimed a strong 4–2 victory over Whanganui City FC in an entertaining match featuring six goals and plenty of attacking moments. Takaro started the game on the front foot and opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Jadon Shiva, who finished well to give the hosts an early advantage. The pressure continued to build and Takaro doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Matt Hepburn found the back of the net.

Just a minute later Takaro struck again, with Jadon Shiva grabbing his second of the afternoon in the 39th minute to make it 3–0 and put the home side firmly in control. Whanganui City responded just before the break, with Ryan Meredith scoring in first-half stoppage time (45+1') to give the visitors a lifeline heading into halftime at 3–1.

Early in the second half Whanganui City closed the gap further when Kobi Robinson scored in the 52nd minute, reducing the deficit to 3–2 and setting up a tense second period. However, Takaro restored their two-goal cushion in the 65th minute when Satore Chambers scored to make it 4–2, which ultimately proved to be the decisive goal.

Despite continued effort from both sides late in the match, Takaro held firm to secure the 4–2 win.

AC Takaro Thirds were forced to settle for a point after a dramatic late equaliser saw them draw 1–1 with Feilding United C Team.

Takaro started the match brightly and were rewarded early when Jordan Prescott opened the scoring in the 9th minute. A positive start from the home side saw them take control of the game and carry the lead into halftime. Throughout the second half Takaro worked hard to protect their advantage, limiting Feilding’s opportunities and looking to add a second goal to secure the result. However, Feilding remained persistent and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.

Their pressure eventually paid off deep into stoppage time when Kayden Bremner found the back of the net in the 90+3rd minute to level the match. Despite the late disappointment, Takaro will take positives from a strong performance and will look to turn similar displays into three points in the weeks ahead.

Manawatu Men's Division 3

Palmerston North Marist Greenies delivered a dominant performance, defeating Feilding United Development 6–1 in an impressive display of attacking football.

Marist started strongly and opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Anton Ross, setting the tone early. The hosts doubled their lead shortly after when Damien Hinch found the net in the 20th minute. Feilding managed to respond before halftime, with Elijah Houlahan pulling a goal back in the 40th minute to keep the visitors within touching distance at the break.

However, Marist came out firing in the second half and quickly regained control of the match. Liam Hancock struck just after the restart in the 46th minute to restore the two-goal cushion.

From there, Lucain MacDonald took centre stage, producing a superb hat-trick with goals in the 58th, 69th, and 77th minutes to put the result beyond doubt. Daniel James then rounded off the scoring late in the match, adding a sixth goal in the 88th minute.

The result caps off a strong team performance from Marist, with clinical finishing and sustained pressure proving too much for the Feilding side.

In one of the most entertaining matches of the round, DSC Rangers and Takaro AFC Benchwarmers played out a thrilling 4–4 draw in Dannevirke.

Both teams produced an attacking spectacle, with goals flowing throughout the match as neither side was able to take full control. Momentum swung back and forth, with each team finding ways to break through and respond whenever the other gained an advantage.

Takaro showed resilience to keep themselves in the contest, matching the Rangers goal for goal and refusing to let the game slip away. Meanwhile, DSC Rangers capitalised on their opportunities going forward, ensuring the match remained finely balanced until the final whistle.

In the end, the teams had to settle for a share of the points after an eight-goal encounter that kept spectators entertained from start to finish.

Manawatu Men’s Masters Div 2

Whanganui Athletic Masters produced a commanding performance to secure a convincing 5–0 victory over PN Marist Dunshaegans.

The home side made a dream start, opening the scoring just two minutes into the match when Aaron Hodson found the back of the net. Athletic continued to apply pressure and doubled their lead in the 12th minute through Amro Saleh. The advantage was extended moments later when a Marist clearance resulted in an own goal by Jacob Shelton, giving Athletic full control of the contest heading into halftime.

Athletic carried that momentum into the second half. Daniel Timmins added a fourth in the 70th minute before Amro Saleh grabbed his second of the match in the 79th minute.

Kane Thomas capped off the dominant display with a late goal in the 89th minute to complete the 5–0 win.

It was a clinical all-round performance from Whanganui Athletic Masters, who controlled the match from the opening minutes and proved ruthless in front of goal.

Manawatu Women’s Championship

Palmerston North United Reserves delivered a dominant performance to secure a convincing 6–0 victory over Takaro AFC Ladies Firsts.

United made a fast start, taking the lead inside the opening five minutes when Megan George found the back of the net. The pressure continued to build and Izzy Kent doubled the advantage in the 12th minute.

With momentum firmly on their side, United added a third through Shiloh Perrott in the 29th minute before Amy Wells extended the lead just before halftime in the 45th minute.

United carried that control into the second half, with Sophie Low scoring shortly after the restart in the 48th minute. Megan George then completed her brace in the 57th minute to cap off the scoring and seal a comprehensive win.

It was a clinical display from Palmerston North United Reserves, who controlled the match from start to finish and proved efficient in front of goal.

Headlands Woodville Wairua claimed a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Transport Maintenance Feilding United Women’s Social in a competitive contest. Woodville made a bright start, taking the lead early when Rachel Cannon found the back of the net in the 9th minute to give the visitors an early advantage. Feilding responded well in the second half and managed to level the match in the 54th minute through Eden Surville, setting up a tense final period with both sides pushing for a winner. The decisive moment arrived late in the match when Fitzy Fitzsimons struck in the 80th minute to restore Woodville’s lead and ultimately secure all three points. It was a determined performance from Woodville, who held firm in the closing stages to see out a narrow but valuable victory.
