 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS 2024

The College is fortunate in having considerable support from the community in the way of Scholarships for senior students going on to tertiary education. Many of the scholarships have strict guidelines as to the awarding process.  Others are subject based.  The following scholarships are ones that students may apply for.  Application forms for these scholarships are available from Mrs Baker at the Principal’s Office or below. 

Application Forms need to be completed (and include letters and CVs) and returned to Mrs Baker by Friday 20th September 2024  

Application forms recieved are then sent to the Trustees of that scholarship and applicants are short-listed for interviews, which will take place at the beginning of Term 4.      ​​​​​​​​​​

The A.W. Parsons Scholarship

The A.W. Parsons Scholarship includes the old Waipukurau District High School area:  

Waipukurau, Takapau, Maharakeke, Hatuma, Wallingford, Flemington, Porangahau, Oueroa, Omakere, Ashley Clinton, Makaretu, Mangaorapa

 – Applicants need to live south of the Tuki Tuki River.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The Eric Tate Scholarship

The Eric Tate Scholarship covers the old Waipawa District High School, which amalgamated with Waipukurau District High School in 1959 to form Central Hawke’s Bay College. 

Applicants need to live north of the Tuki Tuki River e.g. Waipawa, Ruataniwha, Onga Onga, Tikokino, Otane, Pukehou, Argyll East, Wakarara and who have spent the greater proportion of their secondary education at Central Hawke’s Bay College.

The Central Hawke’s Bay Veterinary Club Scholarships; 

Two different scholarships are available; one is for any approved tertiary education programme that can be shown to contribute to NZ’s Primary Industries. 

The other is a B.V.Sc. degree (Massey Vet School) scholarship.

Both scholarships are available to Central Hawke's Bay College students, CHB Vet Club members, direct children or children of member employee’s, a student of Principal’s and Employee’s of Vet Services HB Ltd.​​​​​​​

The Central Hawke’s Bay School Fine Arts Scholarship (Was The Jessie O’ Marshall Estate Art Bursary)

Available for Year 13 students who have been pupils of Central Hawke's Bay College within a period of three years from date of application, have secured a pass in NCEA Level 1 or academic equivalent and can demonstrate that they have a clear ability in one or more of the fine arts (visual arts, design, and carving) Applicants must be going on to pursue a course of study, preferably a Diploma or Degree, in one or more fine arts at a recognised school of Art in New Zealand.

While the academic record of a student is taken into account, the awarding of each of these scholarships also takes into account the strength of the applicant’s written application and if short-listed the way they present themselves at the interview.


​​​​​​​Applicants will be notified of the outcome in writing with successful applicants awarded at Senior Prize Giving.


Senior Managers will decide on the recipients of a number of other scholarships that are available (Applications are not required)

SCHOLARSHIPS & ACADEMIC AWARDS

Academic successes are publicly celebrated at Central Hawke’s Bay College. National honours, like university scholarships and selection in national and international academic teams, are highly prized.  Our top national certificate of educational achievement (ncea) level 1 and 2 scholars are awarded an honours tie for excellence endorsements. Blues are awarded for outstanding academic achievement. Junior academic success is recognised through merit and excellence endorsement certificates and badges.

YEAR NINE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

A limited numbers of Academic, Sporting and Cultural Scholarships are awarded to Year 9 students each year. These have been generously provided by the College. The major awards will cover the cost for the education for the Year 9 students’ expenses up to a value of $500.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

Approximately $65,000 is available to Central Hawke’s Bay College Students each year. CHBC is in the privileged position of having many bequests and gifts to administer.
