Former International Umpire David Quested passed away in Christchurch this week after a brief illness. Dave was a highly respected umpire who stood in over 300 First Class, List A and T20 matches in a New Zealand Cricket umpire career which spanned from 1987 to 2010. Dave started his national umpire career standing in the Provincial A tournament matches and concluded with a Plunket Shield match in February 2010.
The pinnacle of his career was being appointed to 5 Test matches, making his debut in Dunedin 1995 in a Test match against Sri Lanka. He also stood in 31 Mens One Day Internationals and 18 Women’s ODIs. In addition to his one field appointments, Dave was a Television Umpire and Reserve umpire in a further 38 Internationals.
After his umpiring contribution concluded, Dave was a valued member of the NZC Match Referees panel for two seasons. Prior to taking up umpiring Dave was a very senior useful cricketer for the Woolston Working Mens Club in the Suburban Competition where his left-handed batting and right arm fast medium bowling made him a highly successful and competitive cricketer. He was a long-time representative cricketer for the Suburban Rep teams and through his employment with NZ Police, also played for the national Combined Services team.
Daves contribution to the game was not limited to his on-field appointments. He served the Canterbury Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association administratively with considerable distinction and was elected as a Life Member of that body and the Regional Association for his leadership and support over 40 years of a much valued and
