Canterbury Outdoor Target Shooting Club

Canterbury Outdoor Target Shooting Club (COTS) is based at Mcleans Island and caters to 50m outdoor target shooting during summer, using .22 calibre single shot target rifles only.

The outdoor season is from October to March.

New members are welcome, but you must have your own gear.  Minimum age is 13.

We are open Sunday mornings and have both 60 shot prone match, 40 shot benchrest matches. We also have 3P (3 Postions - standing, kneeling and prone) This is truly a marathon event, with that match being 20 shots in each position.

Or alternatively we have Wednesday evenings for a 20 or 30 shot prone match as well as benchrest. Wednesday evenings are a good way to start for those who have been shooting indoors and looking to get into outdoor.

Two lines of flags are set up across the range (at 10m and 30m from the shooters) and these are used to judge wind speed and direction during shooting.

Shooters are graded at the end of each Outdoor Season, and can move either up or down depending on how they have shot that year. Grades are D (up to 92.49), C (92.50-94.99), B (95.00-96.99), and A (97.00-100).  There is no Master Grade as there is with Indoor shooting.  A new shooter who has not shot at all will usually enter at D Grade, while an already-graded Indoor shooter will start at an Outdoor grade one below their Indoor grade.
