BLIND BOWLS

Can you spare a little time?

Our Canterbury Blind Indoor Bowls Club would really appreciate any indoor bowlers (past or present) who could regularly spare a bit of time to help out as guides for their blind and visually impaired bowlers.

The guiding aspect of the blind and low vision game involves giving verbal instructions and/or visual assistance with a guiding paddle when the visually impaired bowler delivers their bowl. It's a really simple concept, easy to learn and anyone can do it, especially if you're a bowler.

The club meet every Wednesday from March to November, 1.30 pm - 3.30 pm at the Blind Foundations Social Hall, Bristol Street, St Albans.

They operate like any other Indoor Bowls club, have  internal competitions, several visits during the year and also work towards players attending the Blind and Visually Impaired National Championships over Labour weekend. This year's event is in Wellington but the 2022 Nationals will be held in Christchurch.

Our Canterbury Blind club members are a wonderful bunch of people, with laughter and participation being the main ingredient of any Wednesday afternoons bowling.

Ideally, anybody offering their help would be able to give a commitment to attend club days on a fairly regular basis.

If you're interested, or would like to know a bit more about the blind game and what's involved as a guide,  please contact Scotty Stewart (03) 325 4535  or private message Chris Moffitt, Secretary NZ Blind & Visually Impaired Indoor BowlS
