Kasey has played rugby league since returning to NZ from England in 1991, where he played rugby union.
Having never played rugby league before, he joined the Mangere East Hawks Club, thinking a season of league could improve his defensive skills, and continued to play for the next seven years.
When his son reached the age of four years and showed an interest in playing league, he made the move to coach, and then went on to perform various leadership roles within the club management, including club chairman.
Kasey started his professional life as a cabinet maker, but soon moved into management becoming the factory manager for one of New Zealand's largest furniture manufacturers, whilst studying part time for a diploma in Communication Management at Manukau Institute of Technology and Auckland University.
With previous experience working in the community to gain better facilities, improve volunteer skills and grow participation for his local club, much of his focus is on doing the same for all the clubs that fall within the Counties Manukau Zone.
