Lunchtime Bytes Webinars
We are so pleased with the enthusiasm our new Lunchtime Bytes webinars have been met with. Save the dates for the next few webinars coming up:
Friday, 22 July: Kaye Avery - Career EQ & CareerSmart CareerEQ developed the CareerSmart online career assessment to help students imagine a world they would want to work in, encouraging agency and a sense that they can make a positive contribution. We developed the assessment to support young people to be grounded in the things that matter to them, encouraging them to think about how they can create a positive future for themselves. It has been designed to enable them to navigate the significant global challenges they are likely to face, including huge technological advancements – all altering the future of work.
CareerSmart offers Career educators an online resource for college students Years 11 – 13 and University students at all levels, an effective self-evaluation to clarify study, learning, and development needs. It provides a holistic exploration for the student that integrates values, culture, and whanau background, with career motivators and interests. The assessment is designed to help students imagine a world they would want to work in, encouraging agency and contribution. Resources for Students Heading off to University
Preparing to leave school – University and Polytechnics
The No Major Drama website is a great way of students identifying majors available at the different universities that match their interests and strengths. This then gives them the ability to research these majors and find out what is involved in each programme and compare programmes between universities. https://www.nomajordrama.co.nz/
Halls of Residence Applications
Students need to understand the halls of residence process. The document links below are ideas on how you can support your students. Each school needs to provide a common confidential reference. Schools need a log in to the following page CCRF site for schools.
Each school then needs to complete the reference for the student and submit it to the universities the student is applying to after the student as completed their CCRF Form
A practice template for students to complete as a "dummy" for their applications. This is useful for teachers writing the references. Halls of Residence Practice Template
We try our best to communicate with CATE Members quickly and efficiently. One of the ways we try and do this is via social media. If you are on Facebook and have not already ‘liked and followed’ our page, please go and do so here.
Future Ready
The decisions students face about what to do once they leave school are daunting and become even more so if they have a disability or health condition. Future Ready provides amazing resources for students and their whanau on navigating life after school.
BECOME Education: Reimagining Careers 2022
In the first session of 2022, we heard from Matt Dolan, Futures Educator at Lindfield Learning Village. With Matt's insight, innovation was on the table, specifically how we innovate in careers education in the midst of a pandemic.
The next session is scheduled for 28 July, 4pm AEST. The focus will be ‘talking about the future’ - what does it mean and how do we program to get students future-ready?
Go With Tourism Expos Experience Record-Breaking Numbers
Now in its fourth year, the Go with Tourism Expo – New Zealand’s only dedicated careers expo for Tourism & Hospitality – has experienced record-breaking numbers for their events in 2022, with a whopping 23,830 visitors passing through the expo doors. This incredible number far exceeds the previous record in 2021 (15,000 visitors) and will increase further once the numbers are confirmed for the final event in Auckland, held at The Cloud on 30 June – 2 July. It is estimated to see around 10,000 – 12,000 attendees.
Go with Tourism Marketing Communications Manager, Helen Shaw, says that the expos in 2022 have been tiring, but rewarding. “At every expo so far we’ve been shocked at the amount of people we’ve seen. Students in particular have been really engaged with our activation zones and they’ve been keeping us on our toes from start to finish. Despite our sore feet at the end of the day, it is a fantastic feeling knowing we are engaging with such huge numbers.
“Students have been asking great questions about careers in the industry; parents have been really receptive to our messaging; and we’ve made great new business or educator contacts that will be really valuable to our work going forward.”
