NELSON COLLEGE RUGBY NEWS

1st August 2022

The Trustee Bank Cup returns to Nelson! What are superb result by the 1st XV. Congratulations to all the players and staff on your success. Our team traveled to Christchurch to play a very strong and motivated St. Bede's team who were looking to secure the chance to have a home semi final and lock in the Trustee Bank Cup for the summer. To come away with the win is outstanding and now presents our team with the opportunity to secure a home semi final this weekend facing Roncalli Aoraki Combined at home this Saturday. All the best to the team and their coaches.

1st XV Report

The 1st XV played St Bede's College 1st XV on Saturday at Sydenham Park in Christchurch. The game was originally meant to be played at St. Bede's College however due to flooding earlier in the week, it was moved to Sydenham. It was a tight game throughout with St Bede's kicking a penalty to go up 16-15 in the final 10 minutes. The boys didn't give up and after some solid defending and sustained attack, created an over lap and were going to score under the posts when a St. Bede's player knocked our pass down. The referee awarded a penalty try! That put us up 22-16 and we held on for a great win. The team scored 4 tries to Sione Mafi, Tylah Blake, Krugar Griffith & one penalty try.

The team now prepares for a game against Roncalli Aoraki Combined at home this Saturday 6th August. All the best boys.

Kind Regards

NELSON COLLEGE CLUB REPORT

What a wild Saturday of Rugby it was this weekend. The fields were already wet enough across the region but with the heavens opening late morning, things became a lot more wet. The temperature, which was already low, fell further and it was not ideal conditions at all. However, our teams carried on and put in some great efforts, picking up some good results along the way. The only game to finish early was the U17 Cambridge team's game who traveled to Marlborough. The referee decided the conditions were too poor to continue and called the game off at half time with the score 14 - 15 to Marlborough at the time. Here's hoping the weather settles soon and the fields can dry out!
