NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2022 Hi MembersYes it is correct - August has blasted it's way in to surprise us all. BOOM!!! July has slipped on by, being very uneventful except for rain, rain and even more rain. Hope you have all survived, making use of your raincoats, umbrellas and gumboots. Auckland Softball held their AGM last week, which saw our own Megan Earley retiring from the Executive Board where she had reigned as Chairperson. It hasn't been very long since Mt Albert Ramblers held their 2021 AGM, due to Covid disruptions, however this month will see the 2022 AGM being held. Watch out below for the notice and save the date.  |

URGENT REMINDER - to those players who have not returned their playing tops from last season, these are urgently required to be returned to your team Manager or to the Club, excluding Premiers. If you have not returned your playing tops, expect to receive an invoice for replacements. |

SPOTLIGHT ON SPOTLIGHT ON ………………………………… AUGUST - Who have you shone down on this month ???? The spotlight tells me its time for the fairer sex to make another appearance, so who better than the Clubs Chairperson, Deanna Callaghan. Deanna has been a member of Mt Albert Ramblers since her birth, and we won’t say what year so as not to reveal her age. However, being the second daughter of Ramblers and Auckland’s Life member partnership of Colleen and Noel Callaghan, where else would you find her? A few interesting statistics –
Played for Ramblers at Junior level – until around age of 12 – in Deanna’s words “I was never very talented spending most time doing cartwheels in the outfield.” At least she wasn’t picking daisies! Deanna went on to use her talents in other aspects of softball, coaching, scoring and administration. She coached a kids team along with a close friend, Nicky Woon, who are still very close friends to this day. Deanna completed her Level 1 coaching certificate in 2006. Along with sister Megan, Deanna then embarked on scoring, passing her theory and qualifiers to gain her New Zealand Scorers badge up to Grade 5. She scored for Ramblers Reserve men for two years before moving up to the Premier Men for whom she gave her time for many years, as well as scoring for Auckland teams from the age of 20. Deanna scored for Auckland teams for 6 years, twice for Provincials, winning in Christchurch, then 4 years of National League tournaments, winning a further 2 titles. Add to this winning badges with Rambler’s men and one with Ramblers Premier women as Bat girl, and her haul of winning badges is immense. Deanna was Treasurer for the National League Committee and Ramblers Premier League Delegate on the Northern Regional Committee. Along with the Championship badges, Deanna was also awarded Ramblers Softball Club prestigious Lawrence Whitmore Trophy for Most Supportive Club member in 1996/97 – jointly with sister Megan, and again in 2021/22. 2013/14 she was the recipient of Ramblers Club Paunovic Cup, presented to the Most Ideal Club Member. As if this is not enough, Deanna has served on Ramblers Committee since 2010 with 2010 and 2011 seasons as Vice-President, then as Chairperson since 2019. She is a very active member of the Club, assisting with T-ballers on training nights and Saturday mornings, helping out with team scoring when required and bar duties. A busy lady indeed, although she will have time for you if you want to say HI !

Membership Draw As no winners have been present to claim the membership draw, it has reached its maximum of $500, which now means there are two draws a week until the $500 is won. See details of draws below in LATEST NEWS section. The $500 is STILL UP FOR GRABS - meaning 2 draws a week at present time. Come and join the Members on a Friday night - partake in a drink and/or a meal from the Dugout Bistro whilst waiting to hear if your name is drawn to be a lucky winner. THANK YOU To Megan Earley for her tenure on Auckland Softball Association over the past 4 years. Megan resigned at the recent ASA AGM to concentrate on family matters. Words from ASA - Megan Earley was elected onto the Auckland Softball Board in 2018 and has stood as Chair since 2020. Megan's leadership is inspiring. She handles adversity with ease and professionalism, and her passion for the game shines through every step of the way. Thank you Megan from ASA and Ramblers Committee for all you do for softball. See you around the diamond. OVERSEAS PLAYERS Watch out for our Club players taking part in the ISC's commencing August 13th through to August 20th at Moline Illinois USA. Rhys Evans (Niagara Stompers) Cole Evans (New York Gremlins , Max Earley (The Bar Buzz) Draw involving teams that have Ramblers players on their roster will be uploaded onto our Facebook page. Good skills to all the players and teams. COACHING CLINICS Ramblers are holding clinics for players from 12 to 15 to be held at Warren Freer Sunday September 4th and Sunday September 18th 2022 from 10am - 12 noon. Clinics will be conducted by NZ Under 23 Assistant Coach Fergus McAlpine and some of the Under 23 players, before they head to Argentina to participate in their World Championship. Watch out for more details on how to register your interest to attend. |
