We're in the thick of XC season now, so lots of important (and interesting) information in this week's newsletter. Race results - The 2nd of our Waikanae Off-road Series events was run in lovely conditions on Sunday. Great to see some new faces, and familiar faces, at this event. Results here and some photos here. If you're in to that sort of thing, there is a Strava segment for the course lap too! Next event in this series is on 29 July.
- News from the South Island is that there were two fantastic PB performances from club members at the Christchurch Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday. Lucy Lawlor ran 3.23 (12th female) in the marathon and Jo Jenkins ran 1.45 in the half marathon. Results here.
- We had a number of great performances by club juniors at the Kāpiti Inter-Schools cross-country yesterday. Top 10 places for club members Lawrence Creser (6th in Yr 5 Boys), Liliani Cuevas-Haxton (1st in Yr 6 Girls), Finlay Bland (5th in Yr 6 Boys), Art Woodley-Hanan (5th in Yr 8 Boys), Yonexsi Cuevas-Haxton (6th in Yr 8 Boys) and James Spencer (7th in Yr 8 Boys) means we will have a good club contingent at the Regionals in Upper Hutt next month (really sorry if I've missed any members - let me know!). Results here. I know how hard these kids have worked to get these awesome performances so it's fantastic to see these results. Great running by all our club juniors past and present (and if you're not a club member there's huge benefits from joining up and training with our speedy kids)!
- A few omissions from last week: Sandi Cooper ran 4.05 at Vancouver Marathon and Christine Coulter was 5th female at Tough Guy Wainui. Well done!
- Please do let us know if you've taken part in an event (preferably before Wednesday) so we can include all the amazing performances by club members in our newsletter. It's great to be able to publicise and celebrate everyone's achievements!
News - This Saturday is the Dorne Cup inter-club event. It's a flat, fast course, suitable for all ages and abilities. There's also a combined teams category so it would be great to see a good club turnout at this event. Details here. Race number information - You should either: (1) already have your interclub race number from the University Relays or Vosseler; (2) If you joined the club since the Vosseler and before last Sunday night - there will be a new named bib for you at the Dorne Cup clubrooms; or (3) If you joined the club since Sunday you will need to collect a temporary bib for the Dorne Cup - available at the clubrooms.
- As previoulsy mentioned, the club is subsidising a trip to the North Island XC Champs in Taupō (6-8 July 2018; event day Saturday 7 July). The subsidy is entry fees paid and a $50 travel contribution for each club car. There are a number of accommodation options from a big AirBnB/Bookabach bach to motel units. The more club members that come up, the cheaper it will be so if we can get a rough idea of numbers we can firm up some plans and confirm costs. This is an open event so any one can enter. If you're considering taking part in this event and want to take advantage of the club subsidies, please let us know (either via the Facebook event here or by responding to this e-mail) so we can firm up plans and details.
- 2018 is the club's Jubilee (50th) year. We're planning to hold a social event later in the year to commerate the occasion. We need helpers to organise the event. If you're keen to be involved in organising the event, please let us know.
Upcoming events Club and interclub events (see our club calendar for more) - Saturday 9 June - Dorne Cup, Trentham Memorial Park. The next interclub xc event, details here.

Other events - Lower North Island Interclub Duathlon - 10 June 2018. Manawatu Tri Club are running an interclub duathlon at Manfeild Race Track. Sounds like a great idea with closed roads and, for the championship event, draft legal racing. See below for full details.

- Wellington Marathon is on 1 July 2018. The half marathon is this year's Wellington Half Championships.

- The club lists all our events, and some others in the region, on our club google calendar: http://bit.ly/2oNDQUU. You can add the calendar to your own google account and never miss another club event!
- The NZ Running Calendar includes triathlon, swim, bike, run, obstacle course and mountain bike events and even film festivals and expos! And if you see an event that takes your fancy and think it would be a good one for the club to attend 'gang-handed', post ideas to our Facebook page.
Training and club sessions - Wednesday nights - meet at 5.45pm at the Coastlands Aquatic Centre for a social run. There is talk of going for a drink after tonight's run too so bring your glad rags and some money...
- Junior training - There will be a junior session this Sunday (2pm, Waikanae Park. Free for club members, $5 for others). Thanks Peter and Bryn for offering to run this weekend's session! Check the website for details of the sessions and join the Facebook Group for junior training announcements and info.
- There is also a junior cross-country squad for competitive juniors runners on Tuesdays, 5.15pm, Waikanae Park. $5 per session. See FSA Coaching's website for more details.
- Anyone wanting to publicise a training session or looking for training partners, please get in touch and we can put the word out.
- You can also use our Club Strava Group to create and publicise events (get on the group if you're not already!)
Club membership - Now is the time to get your club membership sorted (if you haven't already) if you want to run interclub cross-country this year!
- We are always keen to attract new members. You can join online here. Our membership flyer is here. If you want to know what else you get from membership of an Athletics NZ affliated club, check out the member benefits here. In addition, you will receive heavily discounted entry (or even free entry) at the majority of our club events, discounted squad fees, be able to run at inter-club events and be eligible for representative teams. We are affliated to Triathlon NZ and have a number of keen triathletes (and accredited coaches) in the club. We also have a number of social functions throughout the year. If you want to train and compete with the club, you can join us here. Any questions, ask one of our friendly committee members.
Other stuff - Call for newsletter items - if you want some company to train with, you've got a flash new bike and want to sell your old steel workhorse or you've just smashed your half marathon PB (or anything else that might be newsworthy) let us know for inclusion in the next newsletter.
