Hi {{First Name}}

Some juicy news in this edition of the Tri HB e-newsletter, but we are going to make you read to the end!

You must get your entries in NOW for the Platinum Homes Back Paddock Multisport Festival as they close on Sunday 9 October. We have a special offer below. And its not 10%, 20% or 30% off. Its bigger than that! We have so many great things planned for this event and we need you there to make it special!

And we have just launched ticket sales for the 2022 Harcourts Halloween Hunt. This will SELL OUT again and it is a great family friendly, community event. We want Club supporters to hear about this first! See link below.

Tri HB Awards Evening

On 11 September we held our sold out 2022 Club Award Night and took the chance to celebrate achievements over the past year - as a Club and as individuals. There was so much to talk about!

We were also very lucky to have NZ pioneering triathlete Rick Wells as a guest speaker - he is very down to earth, humble with a great sense of humour. Loved his stories about the very early days of triathlon in NZ where half the field wouldn't finish a race in downtown Auckland due to absolutely no regard to health and safety on the cycle and people getting cramp on the swim (which was after the cycle!). Also when heart rate monitors first came on the scene Rick and his mates would race each other to get over 220 beats per minute!

Congratulations to all the Award winners and those presented with Youth Sponsorships thanks to Chris and Liana Gerbes at Plastering and Roofing.

Thanks to East Pier Hotel and Restaurant for the use of their venue and for catering. Awesome atmosphere on the night and just another way we show how strong we are as a Club.

Tri HB Support Fund

At the Tri HB Award night, the Tri HB Support Fund was launched. We know the strength of our Club lies with our people, our members, supporters, volunteers and sponsors. From time to time Club members and volunteers struggle, sometimes financially, sometimes with health, both physical, mental and accidental, loss of employment etc. In the 2020-2022 period Covid 19 exacerbated the situation.

There is a national, if not global, trend for all organisations to be responsible for the health and wellbeing of their constituents and we are a Club that cares.

Therefore our Committee voted to introduce a Tri HB Support Fund. People donate into this fund which is kept in a completely seperate bank account than usual Club income and in times of hardship people can apply themselves or get nominated by others to be a recipient of this fund. It could be a grocery voucher, petrol voucher, a donated massage or facial, pool swimming pass, flowers anything to relieve some pressure and show the recipient that other Club members care. Privacy is respected and only a few people are on the Support Fund sub-committee.

We are currently calling on donations to kick start this fund. All donations over $5 are tax deductible and donation receipts can be sent if we know who you are or you can donate anonymously to ASB Napier 12 3144 0048680 52

If you have any queries please email events@trihb.kiwi. Please consider donating. Let's get this started!

And here they are!

I told you the juicy news was at the end! Exciting announcement from Tri HB Club President - George Massingham.

I am delighted to announce that we have successfully recruited a new General Manager for Triathlon HB, to replace Bruce and Ngaia Richardson who are departing to Nelson for lifestyle reasons. The new General Manager will also be a combo couple, being Geoff and Samantha (Sam) Griffiths.

Geoff and Sam have a well-rounded background that make them ideally suited to the position. They will be known to some of you. Both have a passion for sport, particularly running, swimming, cycling and surf lifesaving, participating in these events for over 25 years. They have between them completed numerous Ironmen races and represented their country at many world championship events. They emigrated to New Zealand from South Africa in 2020. Geoff and Sam have complimentary skills in event management, administration, finance and sales and marketing. Both are Triathlon NZ Accredited coaches. Since joining Tri HB, they have been part of a coaching team for the successful Youth Squad.

Triathlon Hawke’s Bay has been blessed with a series of competent full-time managers since 2006 and I am confident Geoff and Sam will maintain the standards set by their predecessors.

Geoff and Sam formally begin their induction into the complex tasks associated with the General Manager position on 10 October, giving a six-week handover period before Bruce and Ngaia complete their duties on 21 November (immediately after East Pier No. 1). Bruce and Ngaia have successfully led the club over the past four very challenging years. They have steered the club through the Covid challenges and consequent financial pressures. They have been a constant source of innovation, hard work and sacrifice. There will be an appropriate farewell for them and their family before they leave. But of course, they could not do, we can not do, what we do without your support as members, volunteers and sponsors, and I ask that you support Geoff and Sam in the same way that you have supported Bruce and Ngaia and their predecessors.

Regards - George
