The 2022/23 Softball season is now underway with Auckland organising the NFS Showcase for Men from Auckland, North Harbour and Counties, which games were played at Ramblers Warren Freer.

Premiers Women commenced with a rain out.

Reserve Women started the season off with a loss and a rain out.

Playing fees are now due with Associate and Social Membership now open.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Registrations  are still open for all grades

WANTED  - Under 13 girls and Under 15 boys required to fill the registered teams.              If you haven't yet registered and you are in these age groups, please do so now.

SEASON COMMENCEMENT DATES

Reserve Women - 26th September                    Premier Women - 1st October                         Premier men and Reserve men -  8th October                                                                               Under 19 Boys  - 26th October           Open and junior grades - 29th October                       T-Ball module  - 29th October.

TRAININGS - Ramblers teams have or are about to commence trainings.                                 T-ball commence on Wednesday 12th October 5pm - Warren Freer.                                         Once again the sausage sizzle will be fired up for a sausage in bread after T-ball training. under the guidance of Sharron (Aunty Mollie) Lamb. The kiddies favourite.                               Bring your $2 along.

SECOND HAND GEAR - check out the second hand gear available at the Clubrooms.

UNIFORMS - These will be distributed to players by their Team Manager with ALL players (or parents) signing on receival. These must be returned at end of season or replacement fee invoiced.

                                             Out or safe  - what do you reckon?

SPOTLIGHT ON ............................

           SPOTLIGHT ON   - .True Lady of our Sport.

This months Spotlight has fallen on a true lady, not only on the sports field but off the diamond as well.

Who else would it be but the one and only Sina Hunkin.

A former Waitakere College student who has recently returned to the school, not as a student but on the other side of the blackboard – teaching PE and Health.

Sina has spent many years living and teaching in Japan, along with her fiancé, the well-known softballer, Donny Hale.

Softball is one of her passions among other things. 

Sina is quoted as saying “Softball is a big part of our lives, we pretty much eat, drink and breathe it.”

Sina currently is working alongside the White Sox management as mental skills coach, is playing for Mt Albert Ramblers Reserve Women’s team and will be seen at the NPC in Christchurch this Labour weekend as pick up player for North Harbour.

Sina wrote and delivered the Mental Skills module in support of developing softball coaches.

Sina has been an Auckland Representative, Played for Southern Pride at NPC, trainer for Junior and Senior White Sox, travelling to China for Junior World Series in 2008 and Japan in 2018 and long time softballer in the Auckland region.

Talents are a plenty for this lady including softball game commentator.

Just a few statistics from Auckland Softball Awards.

2006-07 season  - Top Batter  with a Batting Average of .403 whilst playing for Marist

2007-08  Most Home Runs with 2 whilst playing for Marist.

2009 – 10 Most Stolen Bases with 11 also playing for Marist Premier Women.

NEWS UPDATE

SOFTBALL NZ Major Sox - Under 23 Men were dealt another blow this week when the U23 World Championship was postponed again.

This time Mother Nature delivered the blow with a hurricanne that devastated Dominican Republic, forcing the cancellation of the tournament.   The tournament had been previously  cancelled when original host Argentina were unable to accomodate the tourney. Plans are now to schedule the tournament in March 2023, with countries being asked to bid for hosting and raising the age to Under 25,

COACHING CLINICS

Ramblers held two clinics for players aged from 12 to 15 at Warren Freer over two Sundays.  Thanks to Fergus McAlpine and players from the Under 23 Major Sox for imparting valuable softball knowledge on to the youth of our sport.

NFS SHOWCASE - after 2 very successful Saturdays the finals day was rained out, so no eventual winning team was determined.

CONDOLENCES

Queen Elizabeth 11 passing was celebrated by Ramblers “Ladies of the Round Table” with Victorian sponge and Gin, at the Clubrooms members night.
