President's Report

By Andrea James

There is now just over six weeks of 2020 remaining. I hope everyone is settling in to make the most of the warmer weather and enjoy summer pursuits. Some of you may have already deemed it is time to put up the Christmas tree and why not - 2020 has been anything but a normal year. While challenges remain, we are incredibly fortunate to live in New Zealand and to be one of the few countries able to host international sporting events with spectators.

For us, we are in the process of planning the 2021 season. With the Selwyn Sports Centre opening next year in Rolleston, our planning includes making use of this fantastic community facility. We sincerely hope that Covid-19 stays contained but are also aware that any plans may need to be altered at short notice.

All clubs and life members have been notified of our AGM and I take this opportunity to remind you that it is being held on Wednesday, 2nd December at 7pm. It will be held in the Habgood Lounge at the Lincoln Event Centre. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing as many people there as possible. We do ask that all clubs send a representative please so that a quorum is achieved. Voting on items will be required this year so please bring a pen with you.

I look forward to seeing a number of our volunteers and life members at dinner on Wednesday night - it has been a good number of months since we have been able to simply enjoy each other's company and it is long overdue.

Thank you for the goodies and kind messages of support this season!

Coach & Player Development Report

By Denise Geayley

A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in both Coach and Player Development this season.  It has been fantastic working with everyone and I am truly grateful for all the time and effort you have put into both your own development and also assisting to run the preseason and Player Development programs which we were able to provide because of your assistance.

Thank you also to our Coach Developers who completed the training required to run the online Netball NZ Coaching Framework workshops during lockdown as well as the face to face workshops we were able to run in the latter part of the season.

To continue to ensure our Players have the opportunity to develop it is important for us to continue with Coach Development within our Centre.  Coaching is an extremely rewarding role and we would love to see more coaches becoming involved and making the most of the development opportunities we will be providing in 2021.

We are fortunate that within our Centre we are able to provide a fair, fun, learning environment where every player has the opportunity to develop both as ‘people’ and ‘athletes’ and be the best they can be through a quality experience.

Looking forward to working with our clubs to assist with our 2021 planning.

Selwyn Netball Youth Council

By Jan and Debbie

We are super excited to introduce the first members of our Selwyn Netball Youth Council.

The Youth council initiative has been developed to gain the insight, perspective and the voice of our younger netball members.

In 2021, this group of young ladies will be taking the lead to recruit more of our youth to join the council.
