From the President's Desk
Greetings All,
The new season starts next month - Wow!!! Time for lifeguards to start getting into the pool 1-2 times each week to start building the water fitness & skills needed on patrol. There are lots of training camps & courses coming up & I encourage all members to take as many of these opportunities as you can.
I want to acknowledge the great work the lifesaving, sport, junior surf & communications committees are doing in preparation for the season - awesome & thank you!
Lastly, I wish to confirm the Board have welcomed Lisa Marvin on as our new Finance Director replacing Clare Gatenby. We are stoked to have Lisa’s expertise and energy!
Have a great month - see you on the beach soon!

Club Captain's Update
Hello Whanga Clubbies!
I don't know about you, but the hints of summer we are getting in the weather are certainly filling my excitement for the Surf club season, beginning on Labour weekend.
More information will come out later on in September/early October about Labour weekend but until then please begin your training, physically and mentally for the refresher and the season for all lifeguards. We will be completing a mass refresher on the Saturday morning of labour weekend. It certainly makes for an easy admin process if we can get everyone refreshed and signed off on this day.
For those gearing up for Junior Surf I do hope you have spread the word about the wonderful program we offer for 5-13 year olds, I encourage you to bring a friend along and get them hooked on the buzz of the surf club.
Congratulations to all those that attended pool champs! Some awesome photos featured from the day of our athletes (all ages and abilities) competing in the pool!. Well done! I would also like to congratulate our esteemed President - Nathan Hight for competing in the 100km long Oxfam Trailwalker in Sydney last month. A huge effort Nathan - We couldn't be more proud of you!.
Lots is happening behind the scenes as the committee members are hard at work (like honey bees) preparing for the season. Thank you once again to everyone helping us put the 2018/19 season together.
This is now the time to keep an eye out for communication around events and what's coming up, you don't want to miss out.
Catch you all soon!
Kind Regards,
Rachelle Bright
Club Captain

Junior Surf Update
We're very excited to announce that Jess Marvin will be our Junior Surf Lead Coordinator supported by Kate Miller as our Beach Coordinator. Interviews are well underway for the rest of the Junior Surf coaching team.
The calibre of applicants has been extremely high – we are fortunate indeed and look forward to working with this team as we look to rebuild junior surf into a world-class programme dedicated to developing young people and youth by teaching core survival skills, coastal confidence, leadership and decision making.
Whangamata Lions have funded the purchase of a Training Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that will help teach potentially life-saving skills to our rookie lifeguards.
With the season fast approaching the Junior Surf team are on the lookout for parent helpers for this coming summer. We need people to assist the coaches on the beach, manage the uniform shop and be generally helpful to ensure the kids have a great time!
