BLAST FROM THE PAST

                                               BLAST FROM THE PAST

Out or safe?     Can you name these players? Where is this being played?

SPOTLIGHT ON ............................

                                   SPOTLIGHT ON --------- PETER JOLL

The spotlight has fallen on a long time Life Member this month.

Peter Joll was awarded a Mt Albert Ramblers Life Membership in 1983 and became a member of the coveted “70 Club" in 2012.

Peter was the recipient of the Paunovic Cup in 1972.

Known as one of the “slim men with no hips” or the “swivelhipped” infiielder, Peter was a very agile player for the Ramblers team for many years.

A member of the 1963/64 team that won the first round of the Auckland Championship, then went on to be placed third in the John Lennon Trophy played in Hamilton.

Peter is married to Carol, who between them have four children, with grandchildren who have also inherited the genes and play on the diamonds around the regions. Grandson Jordan is a well known identity both on and around the diamonds, as well as Liam, who plays senior ball. Grandaughter Aleisha played briefly, however now the great grandchildren are paving the way into the record books, with Freddie Power making a name for himself on the T-ball scene.

Peter's two children Craig, also a Life member of Ramblers Softball Club, and Amanda are heavily involved in softball, and can be seen around the parks each and every week.

A true gentleman who can be seen at many, if not all games that grandsons Liam and Jordan Twigden, play in, as well as T-ball to support and encourage his great grandson.

CONDOLENCES

Condolences to the Cooke family on the passing of husband, father and grandfather, Dick Cooke.  Dick became a life member of Mt Albert Ramblers in 1985.

Dick started his softball life with Ramblers at 9 years old because he knew a couple of boys in the neighbourhood. Rock Chote and Jack Shanks.

Dick played through the grades until he reached the Premier Level and playing for Auckland Softball too. After this he coached the Major 1’s for many many years.

He was a driving force behind the laboring and construction of our clubrooms.

Dick, along with the support of his lovely wife Mary, spent many years at softball which included all kids playing: Allan, Vivienne and Stephanie. Naturally Allan’s wife Michelle, Vivienne’s husband Ian and Stephanie’s husband Jase (who plays in our Gentleman of Ramblers team) soon learnt to love softball too.

This has resulted in Dick’s grandchildren all playing at some stage, with grandson Josh representing NZ in the u19 Junior Black Sox.

Great grandchildren Henry & Lily are playing T-Ball, coached by grandad Allan and managed by mum Emma.

What a legacy.

Along with your dedication to our club, your cheeky smile, and seeing you enjoy a rum and coke, all will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace on the diamond in the sky.
