Welcome to this week's newsletter! News - This Saturday is the Vosseler Shield at Mt Vic. One of the toughest races on the xc circuit but a real experience to enjoy! You need to be a competitive club member to take part in this event. Full details are on the Athletics Wellington website. Bryn has very kindly offered to pick up bibs for our club. Give him a call (027 445 4625) when you arrive to locate him because he's unlikely to hang around at the clubrooms the whole day.
- Traffic and parking around Mt Vic on a Saturday afternoon can be challenging so factor that in to your ETAs...
- Expressions of Interest are now open for those wishing to represent the Wellington Centre at this winter's events. Fill in the form here.
- The club is also considering a club trip to Rarotonga for the Round Rarotonga Road Race in September. Anyone wishing to register their interest in the trip, which I'm guessing is all of you, should contact Bryn in the first instance (b.a.kempthorne@xtra.co.nz).
- The winter club programme is on our website here. Print it out, stick it on your fridge and get along to as many events as possible!
- You can register with the club online now.
Race results - Thanks to Gareth Thomas for the following report on the Hawkes Bay Marathon:
- Three club members took part in the Hawke’s Bay Marathon on Saturday 18 May. It was a cool start to the race, with a spot of frost around the orchards and vineyards. But it didn’t take long for the reliable Hawke’s Bay sun to boost the temperature dial. Ash Hough was first out of the blocks for Kapiti. Speeding along roads and limestone cycle paths, he turned in an dazzling time of 3.06.18. Next was Naomi Hough, competing in her first ever marathon. Determined to make it home in under four hours, she burst through the finish chute at 3.58.42. Finally, Gareth Thomas achieved his goal of completing the event in under four and a half hours, crossing the line with seven minutes to spare. All three report having fantastic support from club members and other local runners in the buildup to the marathon.

- Medium course - Dan Stoner 8th; Declan Murphy 23rd; James Spencer 90th; Caty Spencer 91st
