Janette McLeod won the race for the most meat packs won this year, with 11 draws. Well done Janette. The 50 Club now takes a break until resuming in February 2024. Current members will be contacted in the new year for their continued participation, with available numbers being offered to any interested parrties. ******************************************************************** ROCK CHOTE TOURNAMENT is to be held at the Club from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th December 2024. Teams participating are Auckland United, Hibiscus Coast, Northcote, Roosters, Waitakere Bears and of course our own Ramblers team. SPOTLIGHT ON ……………………………………..NOEL CALLAGHAN This month’s Spotlight has beamed down on someone who needs no introduction, being well known through all softball circles. Yes, it is the Patriarch of Ramblers Softball Club, the infamous Noel Callaghan. Noel is a Life Member of not only his Club, Ramblers, but also Auckland Softball. Life Membership was bestowed on Noel by Ramblers Softball Club in 1987 for his dedication and service to the Club, which he is still an active member of the Club to this day. Wednesday afternoons Noel can be seen helping on the BBQ to feed the T-ballers after their training. A welcome sight for all present. Friday nights he rounds up those present to buy raffles. Saturday mornings he ventures down to Fowlds Park to watch granddaughter Violet King play and can be seen around the diamonds when grandsons Max and Ryan Earley are on the roster for Premiers or Reserves. Noel has his name on the Honours Board displayed at Ramblers Clubrooms under the Clubs President role on several occasions. First was 1975 – 1978, then again 1980 – 1985. 1991 he was once again elected to the position and again in 1996 – 1997. A quote from the 50th Jubilee book – “Did you know ….. that President Noel Callaghan nearly knocked down the Coke Park Clubrooms with a bat one night!” When you see him maybe ask him to explain. The Club is privileged to acknowledge such a legend of the Club in this Spotlight article and wish Noel a safe and enjoyable Christmas, with family and friends. |
