Kia ora koutou,

Apologies if you received the newsletter with the incorrect CATE Conference dates. Please see the correct dates below.

I hope you've had a great start to 2024. We are currently working hard to get registrations out to members for 2024, with most links sent out this week and next. This year we have managed to autofill the forms so members wanting to re-register need only to tick “existing member” and that you agree to terms and conditions. You will be able to update details if these have changed.

Please note that the national fee is inclusive of GST as passed and discussed at the AGM.

When you receive your confirmation email, please save it somewhere safe. This will give you the instructions to adjust details such as phone numbers, employer etc if this changes throughout the year to ensure you still receive communications from CATE.

New members need to complete regional forms through the CATE website.

If you no longer wish to be a member please email support@catenz.org so we can remove you from the database.

Conference planning is underway for the 20th-22nd November in Dunedin. Below we announce who the  conference MC will be. Registrations are now open.

We have some great Lunchtime Bytes coming up, these will continue to run fortnightly over Term 1.

Ngā mihi nui,

Note from the President—Increase in Registration Fees for 2024

Kia ora,
We have received a number of emails from members enquiring as to the rise in the National membership fee and I just wanted to reiterate how this came about.

Last year we were informed that our contract for the Kaiārahi role would cease on 31st December 2023.

After discussions and surveys sent to members there was a clear indication of the need for this role to continue. The only way to ensure that the service delivery of this role could meet the expectations of members was to increase the National membership fee as there was (and still is) uncertainty as to any future funding for this role. To date we are still waiting for the tendering process to begin.

Simply put, without an increase, regions would once again be left to arrange their own professional development and support.

The proposed increase was originally broached at the National Executive level to find a figure that would meet the funding requirements of the role.

This was then put into a remit which was presented to members via newsletters and regional emails prior to the National AGM for any discussion or comment. Discussion points were clarified as to the purpose of the increase with those that contacted the Executive, and the remit was presented and discussion points recorded at the annual AGM at conference. The minutes from the AGM are available to all members through the members section of the CATE website.

Members present voted and the increase in fees was ratified.

We appreciate that this is a significant increase in the amount of the association cost. Comparatively to other organisations we are still on the cheaper end of the spectrum and continue to champion high-level advocacy and development for members.

This should not have been a new change, all of these announcements have been made since September last year. As an executive, and due to the nature of the impact of this change, we were mindful of being transparent from the outset and apologise if this was somehow overlooked.

I hope this gives members an explanation of the increase in fees and the rationale behind it.

Craig.

Kaye Avery from Career EQ—Career Planet
Friday March, 2024, 12.30pm
(Please note change of date)

CareerEQ understands that many people, particularly young people, are now uncertain about their prospects for a successful future. Our accustomed ways of thinking about our place in the world are being challenged by the lifestyles we have grown accustomed to. The advent of artificial intelligence and climate change will bring about a significant change in the world of work, rendering many jobs and career paths obsolete, while at the same time creating many new opportunities that we are yet to discover.

In order to successfully navigate the challenges of the changing world of work, it will be important for us to have resilience, self-awareness, and confidence to make meaningful transitions in our careers. When we have a clear understanding of our ‘Why’, we can more easily identify the ‘What’ we want to pursue and then determine the ‘How’ to get there. This will help us make informed decisions about our careers and find fulfilment in our working lives.difference. This is a tool designed to map individuals’ unique skills and interests, helping them gain clarity on where they can best contribute that is right for them.
